My EDC pistols all have 18 deg grip angles, but that's only because I'm used to shooting my EDC P229s and 1911s a lot. The only thing close to a target pistol I own is my S&W M22A-1 .22LR and although I'm not sure what it's grip angle is, I don't think it matters much as until I took on TFP skills, I'd just align the sights on the intended target. Now it's mostly point shooting for close range shooting (about 7-10 yards or less).

 

I'm going to take a WAG and state gaston designed the 22 degrees into his creation because the Luger, P38, HKP7's etc. are designed thusly. He'd have been very influenced by previous German designs

18° is my preference. I've never taken a very scientific approach to it, it's just that it feels right, feels like a more natural angle for me. I don't think grip angle is something so offsetting that it couldn't be overcome with plenty of practice, I've just never gone that route because the 18° grip guns work fine for me. I've shot any number of Glocks but cannot shoot them as well as my others. If I dedicated the time, I'm sure I could work that out.

Me too; based on decades of 1911 use, most likely.
I often carry pistols other than 1911s; but they all will have 18 degree grip-angles. I’m an “if it ain’t broke; don’t fix it“ kind of guy…

18° for me, though I do fine with my Glocks. I have been moving towards standardizing both the controls and the grip angles of my collection.

 

I used to have an HK p7, bought it when they were cheap back in the 80s.
It shot great, the single stack mag was a drag and the piece weighed a lot, which caused it to bounce around in the holster. It was very accurate for having that short barrel.
Then along came a G19..... and 1 had to go....

 

I’ve always loved the Glocks as they are natural shooters for my hand. Better than any of my other firearms. I’ve had thousands of rounds through the 1911 platform but the Glock just feels more natural to me.

I’ve always wanted an H&K P7M8. Crazy expensive now if you can find them.

 

Had 4 HK PSP's, 3 P7-m8's and one P-7 M13 over the years. They became collectors early 2000's when HK stopped importing them.

Once they got to nearly triple what I paid for them, like every collector I've owned, I took the profit. I've never really married any gun over the years, but I've bought the same gun a few times because I'd sold the one I had and regretted it.

I was given a real taste of the P7 series while attending the first week long swat training there. Both Meyers and Singleton were carrying them [ top two instructors for HK then ]. I was shooting my 1911 and swapping out to a sig 226 [ present duty gun I was carrying at the time but my own ].

Few days into house entries, Singleton was standing close in a line for some reason and I asked him did he wear that P7 because he worked there or because he liked the gun. He liked the gun, no pressure to carry it from corp, he said it was one of the finest counter terr pistols ever made [ when he was British SAS he carried P35's ].

Next day I asked if I could run the day with one of my pistols as that's likely what I've have at hand if I had to enter a building at night on patrol. Phil said, let me get a holster and a P7 with mags, see what you think of the gun.

WOW, I ran 3 entries that morning with it. I was sold, shot as naturally as the two I'd brought from round 1 all morning. Something I could do with either of the ones I brought, the exception being I had tens of thousands of rounds through those guns and this was fully a different animal. I gave it back to him with a thanks and grin. Asked if I was going to buy one, yup, soon as I get home.

The MP5's with Navy triggers were kinda cool too.
