Hey,

I was wondering if anyone carry's a p229? I have a 2022 i carry now, but was wondering if the slightly smaller p229 is better for concealed carry? Not sure if its worth the extra cost vs loss of 3 rounds, 3 oz heavier, etc. Thanks

I love my new P226 and am definitely thinking about a P229 for CCW. Two things, one- I need to actually have my CCW approved before I start counting pennies for a dedicated carry gun and 2- a Glock 26/27 is about half or less than half of a P229... so there is that...

However, they look like great carry guns. Not super small thought, more akin to a Glock 19/23 than a 26/27 I think, based on the dimensions.

I have no first hand experience with the P2022. I sometimes carry a P229. It is comparable (sizewise) with a Glock 19. The 19 is lighter; but, with a good belt and a good holster (Panther IWB) I feel almost no difference between the 19 and the 229. They both conceal equally well. Hope this helps somewhat.

Regards,

Both too big IMO

For me length and width don't matter. It seems the grip length is the biggest issue. Does anyone know the grip length of a G19? From what i've seen online, the G19 is a little narrower. I've considered getting a G26 or nano for pocket carry

TRIGGER TRAVEL:
~12.5 mm / 0.49 in.

Magazine Capacity
STANDARD: 10 OPTIONAL: 15/17/33
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
G19
WEIGHT
595 g / 20.99 oz.
LOADED (~)
850 g / 29.98 oz.
LENGTH
174 mm / 6.85 in.
HEIGHT
127 mm / 5.00 in.
MAG. CAPACITY
Standard: 15
OPTIONAL
17 / 19 / 33
WIDTH
30 mm / 1.18 in.
TRIGGER PULL
2.5 kg / 5.5 lbs.
12.5 mm / 0.5 in.
THE 19 AND 26/27 ARE THE SAME WIDTH. GRIP TO TOP OF REAR SIGHT, G19 IS 5", G26/27 IS 4.17".
I EDC the G26 with a 12 round mag, OWB at appendix with no problem at all. The 12 round mag adds about 3/8" but gives you a full grip + 2 more rounds. Pocket carry is pretty much out of the question.
wearing shorts and a tight shirt the 2022 grip handle prints a lot, so i was considering maybe a pocket carry option during the peak summer months and in Fall/Winter here sticking with the 2022 since my polo's and untucked oxford shirts i wear make it nearly impossible to see.
LOL. Kahr is owned by The Moonies!!! My father loves his Kahr K40 and straight up did not believe me when I informed him Kahr was Moonie-owned. Literally called me a liar, until I proved it.
You know I am hearing more and more great things about the Sig P320 - and it has a lot of appeal because of the "INSIDE GUTS" being the serialized, "gun" part. So you buy the P320 and you get a Sig Sauer-made/engineered, full-size, striker-fired, polymer framed combat/duty-style pistol.. but you can then buy another Compact/mid-sized or even Subcompact/-smallest sized frame which witch to build a new gun with the inside "guts"... and switch back and forth as you like. And everyone raves about this, it looks like it's going to be an amazing gun.
I am not saying you or I need to run out and buy one, but it's sure making me think twice.
I don't believe the company is owned by Moonies but there is some affiliation. I think the chief engineer is related to Moon.....but honestly, I'm not buying a religious affiliation, I'm buying a firearm, so I really don't give a care who owns the company. There are a ton of guns and ammo that are imported to us from communist countries....that doesn't seem to bother people. How many AKs are sold here? At least Kahrs are made in New York (although some may consider that a communist state). Actually, if you look at most American made guns, they are manufactured in gun un-friendly states.
I heard the Kahr's are junk, was going to buy a CW9 but after all the problems i'll pass
Ya i've seen a few P224's. Great looking gun and would be great for a summer time carry. Hard to justify the $1150 price when i can get a G26 for around half that. That's why i love my 2022....sig quality and accuracy at half the price. I've had a couple guys shoot it that said it is equal to or possibly better than their P226/229
^ I am sort of in the same spot brother. I am a long-time Glocker with a sudden, acute case of The Signess... So I am loving my new MK25 and actually have a real real lust for the 226/229 Elite Stainless in .40 ... I now am needing an EDC-CCW pistol. I can get by with my G23 and I can always pimp out my MK25 but, I am not a big guy, and even the G23 is going to be noticeable on me in some ways. So if I am going to be carrying, I could really use the ability to carry a dedicated, Every Day Carry-style, CCW gun ....
Now I would *LOVE* the P229 Elite Stainless. Would be a dream to me. However, it's what, $1100-$1200 ... a G27 is maybe $500, you apparently can get a Gen 3 for $399.99 on sale ... even a fully loaded, Glock 27 FDE with night sights might be $600.... half price.
Love Sig, great gun but, it's a big difference in price.
Don't get me wrong in my assessment of the 2022... I like mine just fine. It's just not suitable for me to use as an EDC. I see the 2022s on Gunbroker pretty regularly in the $350-450 range. I'm probably going to pick up another one when I get the cash to do it. I've seen them at Academy Sports in the <$450 range, too.
Im 5'10 or 5'11 and weigh about 135lbs with clothes on so i'm skinny as ****, and I can carry my sig IWB with a pretty tight shirt thats soft as **** and you can't really tell its there, it does make a bit of a bulge but its so insignificant that i really can't see someone distinguishing that from just a wrinkle in my shirt since even I myself knowing its there can't see the outline enough to make out that its a gun. with a slightly looser shirt or a button down shirt im pretty sure there wouldn't be anything at all really. The sucky thing is of course that we live in Florida which is hot as hell, but one of the most important things about concealed carry is to dress around the gun so you're not really going to get around that unless you buy one of those miniature guns for women, idk about you guys but id rather carry a few extra ounces and know im carrying a good gun with a 15 round mag instead of something that looks like a girl should be carrying it in her thigh.
I have a P228 M11-A1, not to be confused with the original P228, this gun has the exact same dimensions as the P229 and even uses alot of the same parts but has been modified a bit further and comes with 2 flush fit 15 round mags and a stainless steel slide. Yes its heavier than a glock but that's because its all metal as opposed to cheap plastic, it also feels alot nicer and shoots better IMO, and honestly an extra 10 ounces is what half a pound? With my king tuck holster even i don't really feel the weight of the gun and as i pointed out earlier im a skinny dude and I don't use a gun belt. It also comes with a short reset trigger which makes the gun alot better to shoot, i personally dont like the DAO that glocks have. But yea it will run you about twice what a glock will, mine was about $800 or $900 since i had to do a transfer to an FFL as well, so if you don't want to spend that much on a gun that's a different story but i really dont think an extra 10 ounces will make a difference and sig sauer's are definitely better guns. I shot a glock once, feels like a toy gun. There's girls that carry a full size P226, i know a guy about my same size who also carries a full size P226 so the moral of the story is if you want to conceal it you probably can, obviously a full size gun will require some adjustments in the way you dress though which we might not find comfortable in 100 degree weather. I think a P229 or M11-A1 is a perfectly good carry gun, now if you want to wear shorts and skin tight clothes then i guess your only option would be a pocket pistol, but then again that discards glocks as well.
The way i see it is you buy a glock if you want to spend half the cash, you buy a sig if you want the better gun.
Remember that YOU know you have a gun on you so obviously you're going to be more paranoid about it, i really can't see anyone staring at your crotch/abdomen for long enough to notice anything and even if they do most people wont think its a gun unless you can see the outline clearly. Also worst case scenario if they notice you're carrying so what? It's illegal to flash your gun around, its not illegal for someone to see the outline or even see the gun itself if it was accidental now.
This is my sig 2022 in my alien gear holster. As you can see, the grip kinda sticks out a bit instead of being flush with my side. These jeans are 33's and my normal wear before i started cc'ing. Maybe its the jeans and I need to up it to a 34? The holster fills the slight gap i have in the jeans without a belt and i really can't wear a belt nor do anyways and it is fine. I can pull the sig out with no snag or that feeling the holster is coming out with the gun. The clips on this holster are tight. I probably really need to go to my LGS one day and compare the size, grip, etc of my 2022 to a 229, 224 and g26
Right now all the female members are ooodling your abs. :rofl
A good belt may fix your problem with the grip.
Weight isn't an issue for me. My 2022 is only 3/10's of a lb heavier than a G19. I think the 229 might be 1/2 lb heavier than a G19. I have never understood the big deal about weight of a handgun. I work from home so i probably don't cc that much compared to the avg person on here.
#28 ·
The biggest thing about weight is determined by how long you carry each day and how much time you are on your feet carrying . Sitting at a desk or behind the wheel of a car or truck it is no big deal ! Walking around it can make a great deal of difference ! Kevin
I carry a P-228 in 9mm same size as the P-229 in fact all new 9mm sigs are P-229's, I really like this pistol I have carried others, I admit I like the P-225 single stack 9mm better due to weight and thinner
#27 ·
Wow that is a great deal. I paid $525 new with one mag.
#29 ·
agreed on the weight issue this is why i switched to the P-225 (P-6) love my 228 but ita bit bulky at times, the other day i ordered a P-2009 swiss police contract polymer from Top Gun, its a collectable it was $ 379.00 same mags as the 2022, the french police are now carrying the P-2022. I have not yet fired the P-225, P-228 & P-2009 to feel the difference but the polmer 2009 frame is light
I've carried my Nickel 229 for over ten years. I love it.
I love how folks complain about the weight of their carry guns.
I solved that by carrying a fully loaded Para P14 for two years.
Now all else are so light I don't even notice them. :grin
I like Sigs because they are first round accurate from the draw. At least for me.
If you're considering a 229 I'd get a M11 instead. Newer design with newer grip and it's +2 more rounds strangely?
