I know many of you have found yourself in the same boat I've been in lately - looking for a quality gun safe at a good value. After doing a lot of research, I finally made a purchase, and am very happy with it! If any of you are looking for a good safe at an affordable price, I think this one is a winner!
The "Second Amendment" 24-gun safe is manufactured by Blue Dot Safes in Pomona, CA (the same city I was born in!). That means that unlike other gun safes in the price range (I'm looking at you, "Winchester"), it is manufactured right here in the US. It features ten 1-1/4" locking bolts, 12-gauge steel body, intumescent door seal, and electronic lock (though you can order them with combination dials). The safe's fire rating is also far above others in its class - 1700* for 1 hour! It weighs right around 500lbs. I purchased the safe from Blue Dot via Ebay, for $775 with free shipping from CA to FL.
The 2A safe's primary competition seems to be:
A.) "Winchester" brand safe. The Winchester is very similar in specs, and Tractor Supply Co was willing to deliver it to my house for $100 cheaper than the 2A safe. However, it fell short in two critical areas for me. First, the Winchester safe is apparently made in China. Although it says on their website "Made in the USA," if you actually go look at the model inside TSC, it has a sticker that says "Made in China." I don't know what to believe about that honestly. The other issue is that this safe was only rated at 1400* for 30 minutes. Not terrible, but there also plenty of pics on the internet of gun safes that have been through fires, and it is very obvious to me that a high fire rating should be given just as much consideration as how many locking bolts are used.
B.) Cannon 24-gun Scout safe The Cannon has a couple things going for it: Name recognition, prewired electrical panel, and Cannon's lifetime warranty. But, this safe only weighs 350 lbs, and only has four 1" locking bolts. If you step up to the Patriot line, you get a slightly larger, slightly heavier safe, but its fire rating is only 1200* for 60 minutes. And it'll cost you over $1200 after shipping! Is the lifetime warranty worth an extra $400-$500? Not to me.
C.) Liberty Revere safe The Liberty Revere safe is a good safe IF you are sure to pick up one of the models that are made in the USA. Not all of them are. USA made models will cost you over $1,000 after delivery. And, even the USA-made Liberty Reveres only have 8 two-way locking bolts (no bolts going up or down), and the bolts themselves are only 1". Fire rating is 1200* for 30 minutes.
For me, the 2A safe is the clear winner in terms of price and function. It has the best fire rating out of any RSC in its price range, and it is manufactured right here in the USA. Although they don't have the name recognition of other brands, they are going to make a name for themselves when people realize what a value they are offering!
