Really? A lot of boaters I've known have weapons aboard.
large gun forums span the globe...not just florida...you know that thing about forums...but there are plenty of boaters in florida who dont believe the gun is necessary...

Yup, of course some are, but most LEOs are not the "highly trained gun" handling guys and gals the general public thinks or has been programmed to think they are.
Perception has become ones reality. It's a constant in the world. To most it's another piece of equipment, one they have to prove a minimal proficiency in to work. Some depts have in the last decades made strides to bring firearms training into the 21 century but the majority of admins have little time nor inclination to allocate funds to improve proficiency standards.

When I qual'd at the 25 yrd line, I had 45 seconds for 15 rounds with a mandatory reload. YHGTBSM, that's 3 seconds per round. Bulls eye shooting slow to get most to even be able to qual at that distance. It was just so ho hum, yet I watched many struggle to get a passing score.

The shooters on a dept know who the other shooters are. The rest are just less adapt with that particular tool.

Lots of people believe that military training somehow makes for adept pistoleros, as well.

You’re right, lots of people. A DD 214 trumps your need to take a class in Florida and many states. If you were a quartermaster and handed out duffel bags for two years, Florida presumes that you have had the requisite training to carry concealed.
Which is a great example of how much knowledge and expertise elected and appointed officials on the subject.

I lost the legal right to carry in Minnesota (kind of a big at the time, since I traveled there regularly) after the Ohio legislature and governor decided the the one hundred or so active duty military personnel in Ohio between the ages of 18-21 should be issued Concealed Handgun Licenses, leaving the requirement for twenty-one for everyone else. Minnesota required age 21 at the time, so revoked reciprocity with Ohio.

Even though I had a DD214 and the Navy Expert Pistol medal, I took a CCW class here in FL. I just felt it was prudent, especially the legal side of the class. Plus... I just like taking classes.

Thought it was funny, my bro in law asked me to check out a rifle & pistol for him & show him the breakdown & see if they look ok …… he’s retired ex military, ran a bomb dog, guarded stealths, could guard nukes, lost several guys in the Middle East, got their azz’s shot off a few times. I said really? He said if it ain’t what I carried, or tickin, they don’t show us shiz & I’m kinda rusty on em!
