You're at your drivers door in a large parking lot filled with cars

When out of nowhere, a man with a knife appears from behind you having concealed himself from view by other vehicles telling you to give him your money. He's just 3 feet away when you turn to face him.

What are you going to do?

Why?

If I can draw while still facing away from him, I like my chances.

Believe me when I say you do not know exactly what you will do.
All you know is what you think you would do.
It takes a guy like Brownie to know and do what needs to be done without thinking.
Training and more training is what it takes and the fact that you will not hesitate to kill.
Training and practice is your best defense against any threat but you also have to be willing to kill a person if needed too.
Ronnie
Why should I believe you? I'll wait.
You don't have to believe me,
I have personally seen men freeze up in a horrible situation and these were trained as well as the ones that did "NOT" freeze up.
Ronnie

PS:
Mike, Is that your great looking dog?
He or may be she is sure a beauty.
Yup, that is my male Dutch Shepherd. Thanks.

And this is precisely why people like Brownie post such threads. Keep us all thinking so maybe we will react quickly and with a known and practiced reaction.
I've taken a couple Brownie classes, and so far, so good...

Ronnie, I agree. Some folks have given reasonable input but your point is well taken. Mike Tyson said once that everybody has a plan until they get hit the mouth.

I often say that many people are big man on campus until they get on campus. It serves a purpose from a training perspective to consider these things in the abstract and we can only hope that when we “get on campus“ we remember. Some folks might rise to the occasion, others might just involuntarily urinate and hand over the valuables.
What does that mean, exactly?
It’s an old saying that means everyone has an idea what they would do or has an opinion as to what action they will take until they actually see a knife pointed at them or a gun pointed at them. I was referring to the value of discussing and thinking about these things ahead of time with the hope that if the emergency ever occurs folks will remember what to do. At least they will have kicked it around in their mind rather than having it be a case of first impression.

I know if a case where a former US Army Ranger was a police officer in Georgia. He and his field training officer responded to a domestic and a big fight broke out between his training officer and a female who stabbed the training officer a number of times in the gut right under his vest. The former Army Ranger officer froze in the doorway seemingly unable to move. My friend, JC, bleeding profusely, shot the lady in the back, paralyzing her as she ran toward the new officer preparing to stab him. He never even reached for his pistol.
It seems to me the Ranger found himself in a hole he had never had to climb out of before, either by training or experience. I was army infantry airborne, and nothing in that training translated into a course of action in an up-close-and-personal fight for my life. I've had to go elsewhere for that.

"Everybody has a plan until someone bites their ear off." :geek:
Or in Tyson's case, he did great as long as he was taking punches to the mouth. Being hit in the eye, otoh, and he went down an unexplored path.
I understand but my point was that even with his military background and familiarity with weapons combined with the fact that he was a graduate of a police Academy where he received specialized training on just the very issue that caused him to freeze, he was unpredictable.

I can’t really remember but I think he urinated in his pants. I know he broke down in tears and quit. My friend had multiple surgeries, medically retired and now works for federal express in North Carolina.
So much for the effectiveness of police academy training.
