This, or with hands up, slowly pull out my wallet and then throw it at his feet. While he stoops to pick it up, I'm attempting to create distance and drawing my EDC to put several rounds into him until he changes shape or catches fire, similar to how we've trained in several of your TFP courses (movement with shots on the threat)!

Yup, you could have just been shopping so have package/s in hand. Or just coming out of a movie theater, nothing in hands but keys.

I'm kinda a H2h guy at 3 feet myself in this scenario, unless I've got my trusty PUG 22mag palmed as is so often the case walking through parking lots [ having taken it from my right front pocket upon exiting the store.

Many scenarios, the PUG becomes the primary for the first shot at spitting distance or closer as in this scenario.

Raise PUG, fire into his face. Drop PUG while moving further away [ left or right as available ] and draw the usual primary. People poo poo the PUG in any caliber for SD, I make great use of it in parking lot scenarios, whether that's a grocery store, walmart, movie theater, etc

Well,
This did happen to some anonymous stranger in HUNTS POINT MARKET in the South Bronx of New York.
A truck driver bought two donuts and a cup of coffee to take back to his truck to unwind after a long drive up from Florida.
As he was walking , A nice young very intelligent Black nice young man trying to make enough $$$$ to buy his school books snuck up and put the knife he had against the drivers right side. ( That driver still has a scar)
He mumbled something like give it up or I will cut you or something barley legible.
The truck driver who had a few incidents in Nam just backed off a little and put the coffee in the hand holding the donuts and said "NO PRPBLEM WITH ME" and reached in his pocket and took out a North American Arms 22LR. and shot the nice young man in the throat.(((DEAD)))
Workers looked from the dock and just went back to work.
The driver climbed into the cab and drank his coffee and ate the doughnuts. ( Then fell to sleep )
The next morning he awoke to his truck shaking due to unloading and when looking out the window he seen the dead thief all squashed to hell. Another truck backed over him during the night and the unloading crew had the truck move over a tad more and put a barrel in front of the body.
At daylight, A White unmarked van pulled up and two guys got out and scraped the thief into a zip up bag, poured some type of liquid on the spot and loaded him up and drove away
A little while went by and the truck was unloaded and not a word was said about the incident.
The truck driver never heard a word about that -EVER.
I don't know who this driver was or is.
All I do know is he sure did what was needed at the time he did it.
AND, I'm sure he would do the same again if something like it comes up again

extending your leg puts it in closer range to his knife. keep limbs close to body and away from a opponents knife as much as possible
I don't disagree and my first impulse is to collapse into my core, evaluate and act accordingly...at some point I will have no choice but to act into the aggressor if I don't have an out (see my original post)...I am not a totally defensive person...I want control...at 3 feet if my silver tongue doesn't razzle dazzle them into submission then it will become physical...I will not stand by and just block shots while I get cut...I want my turn...

Use whatever distraction to make space and draw the gun, but I agree that I would be thinking H2H at this distance. The technique would be based on whether he's holding the knife like he knows how to use it, or just holding it straight up. Let him make a move, and if it's low, then block it down and come up with a Y hand to the throat. If it's high, then brush the attack into a circle and catch the hand. At that point, I could take him to the ground with the hand.

If he swings wide, I could use the krav maga technique to catch his arm and spin him into a seated position with an immobilized hand with the knife. I then can draw my gun.

There's a lot of different things to do. I don't know which one my body will take until it happens.

If he's right handed, I'll step into him while drawing, stick the gun into his belly and open fire.

If I can draw while still facing away from him, I like my chances.

Stepping into a knife with a tool that can reach out and touch from a distance?...bullets don't necessarily shut people off...

You are looking at this from a different perspective than I am.

If he\she got that close to me, the person should have killed me and looted my body.

Instead he\she is making threats. Assuming alert level yellow, I should be turning and moving toward him\her before the person stops talking.

The left hand will block or sweep the knife hand out of position depending on the position of the knife. Moving close limits his\her ability to stab or slice.

Once I open fire, I do not stop and allow the muzzle to rise with each shot.

No solution is perfect, but if the person wants to back off and knife fight, it's gun vs knife.

Believe me when I say you do not know exactly what you will do.
All you know is what you think you would do.
It takes a guy like Brownie to know and do what needs to be done without thinking.
Training and more training is what it takes and the fact that you will not hesitate to kill.
Training and practice is your best defense against any threat but you also have to be willing to kill a person if needed too.
