Excluding revolvers and 1911s (if you can stand it :D), I want to know which service-type pistol and caliber you would carry if you knew you were going into harm's way, assuming price (don't get carried away) and concealability were not concerns.

What say you?

Well, if you exclude 1911s, then I'm going to exclude other .45s as well, since the 1911 would be my choice over other .45s. Given that, I would probably go with a Glock 9mm.

S&W 686. I still love the .357 magnum.

Well, me too. But Deadeye excluded revolvers.
I know but it was either that or the PT140 Pro that I have.

I only know the .357s I've carried in the past and now the .40.

You had to throw service-type pistol in the statement didn't you. W/O that statement I would go for a bazooka :rolf
but since you added service type pistol, I would go with the Glock. I don't recall the model number but its the full size .40

In harm's way in general or specifically a military setting?

In general, I'd go with my G22 and all the mags I could carry.

In a specifically military setting, I'd go with a G21SF since 9mm ball ammo SUCKS!

...or an AK Pistol! :ak

To narrow the parameters, let's say that we're talking about a non-military, civil unrest/natural disaster type scenario...and it has to fire a pistol cartridge (no 7.62x39 or .45-70) and fit in a holster! :laughing

No TC Contenders?

Will stay with the G22 and beaucoup mags, then, Kimosabe.

I'd prefer what I shoot best but thats not allowed on this post!

The pistol I shoot best is an old Dan Wesson .44 mag, after that probably my old .357 Blackhawk, then my .22 Ruger target pistol and none of those would be allowed on this post, or in the case of the target .22, not a 'harms way' type weapon. I know revolvers don't qualify here, but I really-really like that old Dan Wesson.
So what I carry is usually a Glock model 30 or a Glock model 23. I probably shoot the .45 model 30 a bit better than the 23.
My wife on the other hand just about only carries a Glock 30 even though she has other guns. She has a lot of confidence in a .45 and is pretty particular about her carry ammo for defence.
