I can't see hooking up a 9mm Sig 229 to my keychain. What is this little hook thing for?

It's a lanyard loop. Lanyards are used to prevent the gun from being lost should it be dropped.

It's for a vest attachment. A line cord that attaches the gun to a tac vest & lets it only extend so far out. Military uses it a lot on M9's. Also keeps is attached to you in battle.
