Weston Arms' range

Has anyone been to the Weston Arms range off of SR84 in Davie yet? I am planning on [possibly] making Tuesday a range day but would hate to drive 40+ minutes to American or Big Al's when Weston is only about a 20 min trip.

I believe it isn't open till January.

We just bought a Benelli from them today at the gun show and were talking about the range they'll be opening.

I asked them about their claim they can get somebody their license within 10 days. They say it's taking a little longer now but they should be able to do it in less than 3 weeks. I asked them how and was told it was a trade secret.
Ok. thanks for letting me know.

I was wondering about that 10 day turn-around time implied on their websites testimonial section as well. I've never heard of someone getting it this fast. I'm still a bit skeptical. I have a co-worker considering getting his CCW I will try to convince him to do the class there to see if the turn around is really that fast.
Keep us updated. It would be really cool if we found some way to cut through the delays for our loved ones.

I took their class (even though I had taken one previously at Bass Outdoor World) and followed their "secret" steps EXACTLY ... and it still took 4 and a half months.

I was thinking it may be a marketing ploy.
Sounds like the type of guys you might not want to do business with. I know I hate to be lied to or feed bs.
I'm taking my CCW class at Weston Arms tomorrow morning. I'll be following their plan. When I spoke with the guy there he said the permit would take about 6 weeks. I'll let you know how long it actually takes.

Dan
Please do. That doesn't sound realistic.
With electronic fingerprinting, it might be about six weeks, but that's being optimistic. With the load the D of A is getting now, it seems very unlikely.

Took my class today. The instructor said that he had a former student who submitted his application in mid november. He called the D of A this week and they told him they were currently processing September applications.

This could take a while. : censored

September? I submitted in early October and received my license in December. 77 days, start to finish.

Did he still say 6 weeks?

This was a different guy. The guy who said six weeks was one of the guys behind the counter. The guy with then November/September story was the class instructor.

Steve48 that's good news. Maybe the story was old. Or maybe the guy called the D of A in early decmber. Who knows? I just hope you're right.

Oh, and by the way, I didn't notice any super-secret way to get the CCW. I've already got my prints done and paid for. I'll get the passport photos on Monday and be mailing the application out Monday afternoon. It seems that any intelligent person can do what Weston Arms says to do.

They seem like real nice folks over there, though. I can't complain about the service and the place is clean with a new range on the way. Their prices are a bit nuts, though.

Dan
For your passport photos, you can go to most Walgreen's and get them done in a couple of minutes.
Did you do your fingerprints electronically? I'm just wondering because I take my class in Tampa on Thursday and have my passport photo and regular fingerprints already but the police dept said if I wanted the electronic ones I would have to pay something like $35 online. I'm wondering if it really is any faster?

In my opinion, no. Somebody is still going to have to search the FDLE, NCIC, and FBI data bases to make sure you are not a "crook."
Update

Hi all,

OK, well I sent my package to the D of A on Monday and it arrived today. I know this because I sent it certified mail. I did my fingerprints electronically last week and sent the copy of the receipt with my package. I have no idea whether the electronic submission will make a difference but I'll keep you all posted.

The worst part of this whole thing will be not knowing if they lose my photo or if my prints aren't clear, thus a delay will occur. I'd hate that.
