(I hope this is in the right place.)

My wife owns a Walther P22 (a birthday gift from me a few years ago), and so far, I am in charge of disassembly, cleaning and reassembly. I can break the gun down without a problem and cleaning is similarly OK.

I have a real problem reassembling the gun and I need to understand if the problem is my technique or if the gun is just notoriously difficult to reassemble.

The challenge comes when I am reinserting the rod and spring into the body of the gun (don't hesitate to correct my nomenclature). If I compress the spring with my fingers, I can't get the rod fully inserted because my fingers are in the way. If I don't compress the spring, it flexes instead. Either way, I can't get the gun reassembled. Then, I wrestle with it for 30-45 minutes and all of a sudden, I have the gun reassembled....without knowing exactly what I did to put it back together.

Do I just need to spend more time taking it apart and putting it back together? Is there a "trick" to it? A tool?

I can supply pictures, if that will help.

TIA

This the biggest pain when it comes to the P22. I didn't watch Busa's video, so forgive me if they cover this: I'm only able to get the gun reassembled using the plastic "pencil" tool that came in the case. Without it, the spring bends and contorts and makes my life miserable. Have you been using that little black plastic piece?

That's the fastest/easiest way to reassemble the p-22. The first time I just tried to get it back together without the tool, and after a lot of frustration, tried the tool per instructions and it was seconds before it was put back together.

Use the tool,
