Political correctness and anti-gun politics gone wild.... During a Zoom class, an 11 year old boy’s bedroom was observed in the background, and police were called when a “weapon“ was observed... It turned out to be a legally owned BB gun, with school officials claiming that seeing the BB gun in the boy’s room was the same as if he brought it to class... An incredible invasion of privacy... https://foxbaltimore.com/news/project-baltimore/police-search-baltimore-county-house-over-bb-gun-in-virtual-class

It's Maryland, and the word "Baltimoron" comes to mind, but it's also the same state education system that disciplined/suspended an elementary school (might have even been a kindergartener) for biting his pop-tart into the shape of a pistol because they "have a zero tolerance policy!" SCROOM!

So basically the school resource officer "swatted" this family. I hope they sue. And as far as the idiotic notion that having a gun in his room at home is the same as bringing it to school, I'd ask them, is that your legal opinion? Because you're going to need the services of someone with a law degree.

That is a funny story that reminds me of a fun little story I heard as a child, "Chicken Little".

[Although I am sure there is a better one in the Mother Goose or Grimm collection]

How about the scorpion and the frog?

Once upon a time there was a leftist teacher who wanted to teach online and put cameras in all the student's rooms. One of the students said "But I don't want you snooping into my room". "Nonsense", the teacher replied, "why would I do that"? So the student allowed the teacher to see into his room and she saw a toy she didn't like. The teacher called the cops and had the kid put through the ringer. The student said; "I thought you weren't going to burn me!" "It's in my nature", the leftist teacher said.

They're going to need someone with a Ph.D. in Physics.
I don't know how a BB gun could ever fit in the camera, wires, router and internet connection to ever be a threat to anyone on the other end (who of course), probably can't see each other anyway. Only the teacher.

This is about as stupid as political correctness and nanny-state gets.

Don't challenge them [to get more stupid]! Based on 30 years of living in the DPRofMD, I think they're constantly trying to up their game, err stupidity.

Even if it was a real gun, It is at his home and legal to be there.
As far as secured, It is his parents responsibility weather it should be in some stupid safe or unloaded and locked up. These are the socialist brainless freedom hating fools that are brainwashing Americas children into believing the government and 911 is their only protection.
I'm not saying there are not some really stupid children that will shoot themselves or others playing with a gun, There are , But there are the majority that are taught gun safety, How to use their gun safely and own one without ever a problem.
Next it will be a picture of a gun hanging on the wall that will be a problem for the brainless school officials and teachers.
Intrusion into American homes is the beginning of the destruction of America as we now know it.
FLAME SUIT IS ON
so go at me if you don't like my personal opinion.

I'll one-up that...
Next, it will be a NERF foam dart "gun".

That's probably grounds for a 3-month school suspension in Maryland.
6-months, if it's the HyperFire Elite model (shown below), or if the magazine holds more than 5 rounds.

My biggest problem here is that some judge signed the search warrant.

What's the crime?

Judges that are robo signers are the problem

They would really flip seeing my son's room! It decorated as a hunting and fishing cabin. He's got a real looking double barrel 410 shotgun hanging on his wall. It's a real collector's item and worth a bit of money. It's actually a Daisy pop gun. Looks quite real though. The kind of real that would get you shot these days if you took it out in public to play with it. He's not allowed to play with it or touch it though. It's just his when he's old enough. He's six now.

I see nothing in the story to suggest that there was a warrant. The mother says that she consented to the search- and now regrets it.

Read the article again. Mom consented to the police entering her home. Nowhere do I see a consent to search. But I take your point there was no warrant.

That’s basic search 101. You engage the person, be friendly and ask “do you mind if we just look around ?”

The report then says “the subject gave consent to search”
