Not such a good idea, if you get into an accident there is no telling where it will go flying. I keep mine in inside my center console in a holster mounted to the side. After practice I can draw it w/o looking fairly quickly. Also, what about on the passenger seat, under a towel, shirt, etc?
Is that legal?
I set my sidekick up like that originally, but I found the crossdraw cumbersome. I find it much easier to draw from in front of my console, just beside my knee. It's a lot more subtle of a movement too. Mine is almost like the Kingston, but outside my right leg. These look like a good ideas or something similar

I am on board with you brownie. I carry mine on my side even in the car, with my shirt tucked behind the grip and I make sure I can easily retrieve it (it comes out of the holster) before ever leaving the parking lot.Glock23-4-Me,
Though that will work, I prefer to be able to put my hand on the gun without furtive movement if I'm being approached or am behind the curve with someone at my car door before I know it.
FWIW, here is my solution to the cross drawI agree that with that set up, the cross draw would add precious seconds to you being able to retrieve your firearm in a pinch.
You could wrap that around the passenger seat, pack toward the rear. Easy draw for the driver, if you dont mind the stretch. Obviously a bad choice if you have questionable rear passengers, but an alternative to the seatback map pocket for some.I guess a fanny pack positioned in front of the seat would work also
