Vehicle "carry"

Just wondering what people do with their weapon in the vehicle.

Between the seatbelt, my fat belly, and it being IWB, it's difficult to get at it quickly if needed in a car jacking.

In the glove box seems way too far away.

In the center console requires one to possibly turn away from someone on the driver's side, or requires the steps to open, reach in, etc.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Under your left thigh, handle exposed and ready to be used at a moments notice.

What if you get pulled over? Is that considered concealed?

Also, what about on the passenger seat, under a towel, shirt, etc?
Is that legal?
I have a concealed, no problem.

If you don't have a concealed how are you carrying it in an IWB to begin with in your original post?

I've had cops pull me over and walk up to the vehicle often enough when on surveillances with the gun there, they can't see it and it's easy enough to raise and move the left leg a little to conceal it further when necessary. Actually had an undercover Boston dick approach my caddy while I was outside a hospital on surveillance in an aggressive manner and he had the gun pointed at his face pretty quick. I could tell through awareness he was eyeballing the car being sly about approaching me, so my hand was on the gun by the time he thought he'd lean into the window.

BIG SURPRISE for him on that one. He backed up and stated Boston PD. I smiled and told him "Licensed Private Dick, lets see the badge real easy like". He obliged to expose it on his belt and I lowered the gun. Asked me to step out which I did, showed him the creds and we both agreed approaching like that aggressively could get ugly. Come to find out he knows a good friend of mine working the Boston gang unit real well, makes a call and I'm allowed to go about my business.

No one approaching the vehicle is going to see the gun under your leg unless they lean quite a ways into the vehicle.

I actually just setup a car carry in my truck. I used my Uncle Mikes Sidekick and a nylon luggage strap. It's secured around my lower console and the draw is just outside my right knee. The holster also houses an extra 16rd mag. I drape a towel over it to be concealed. I'm still trying to verify the legality, but from what I can gather it should fall within the FL statute stating "on or about my person." I usually keep my gun IWB when taking errand trips, but I can holster it there for longer rides or when I feel that a quicker draw may be required.

I'll post pics tomorrow, once I'm back on my computer.
if you have a concealed carry license (in my opinion) you are fine to have it under your thigh or with a rag or something covering it. per f.s. concealed is defined as:

(2) "Concealed firearm" means any firearm, as defined in subsection (6), which is carried on or about a person in such a manner as to conceal the firearm from the ordinary sight of another person.

Not such a good idea, if you get into an accident there is no telling where it will go flying. I keep mine in inside my center console in a holster mounted to the side. After practice I can draw it w/o looking fairly quickly.
Keep in mind drawing a firearm may not be the best course of action, driving away maybe the best bet.
its on sale for 39.99 and here is the link if you want it

Glock23-4-Me,

Though that will work, I prefer to be able to put my hand on the gun without furtive movement if I'm being approached or am behind the curve with someone at my car door before I know it.

Furtive movement reaching for that gun like you have it with the Boston cop would have brought him drawing on me immediately, and he'd have won, I'd have likely been shot for my efforts. Instead, he didn't have a clue I was holding a gun as it took no movement to get it into my hand. I think that position holds that risk.

Just my thoughts on that position, it's not fast enough to get to IMO. I want the gun at my hand at all times if it's not on body. If I am not launched/ejected out of my seat, the gun is going nowhere under my leg.

I set my sidekick up like that originally, but I found the crossdraw cumbersome. I find it much easier to draw from in front of my console, just beside my knee. It's a lot more subtle of a movement too. Mine is almost like the Kingston, but outside my right leg.

I am on board with you brownie. I carry mine on my side even in the car, with my shirt tucked behind the grip and I make sure I can easily retrieve it (it comes out of the holster) before ever leaving the parking lot.

I posted the pics and link because someone was concerned with having the gun under their leg, as you had suggested, in case of an accident as they did not want the gun to fly around the car.

I agree that with that set up, the cross draw would add precious seconds to you being able to retrieve your firearm in a pinch.

FWIW, here is my solution to the cross draw

Truck Mount
I have a full truck seat with pockets in front, I put mine in pocket between my legs rag over it EASY to draw :thumsup
I guess a fanny pack positioned in front of the seat would work also

You could wrap that around the passenger seat, pack toward the rear. Easy draw for the driver, if you dont mind the stretch. Obviously a bad choice if you have questionable rear passengers, but an alternative to the seatback map pocket for some.
If I have cause to believe I may need quick access to my sidearm while driving I simply tuck it up under my thigh as brownie has suggested.
This is how I carry a weapon in my truck (usually in addition to the one in my pocket) with a holster mounted to the inside of the center console lid...
