I had purchased a 1X prism optic for my AR-9 a few weeks back and didn't take into consideration that my eyes ain't what they used to be... fast forward to this past weekend, I purchased a 3X optic at the gun show and proceeded to return the first one I purchased online. After showing up at the local UPS store in West Orange County where I do most Amazon returns the young clerk asked me what was in the box I was shipping. I found it was a bit odd for him to ask, but saw no reason to state anything but the truth and that's when he told me that they do not ship "rifle parts."

After a short, rather spirited counter that a scope was NOT a rifle part, the clerk said they consider it to be and again refused to ship it. I ended upgoing to the Post Office and they shipped it without incident, but I'm curious if others have encountered a similar experience.

I haven't. Then again, I haven't shipped/returned anything via a UPS Store since all this wokeness got woke.

Try this first before you give up on them. The next time you order and need to return,. (especially if through Amazon), request a "pick up" from your driver. Don't take it to a UPS store. All you need to do when doing a return through Amazon is pack up the item, insert the RMA sheet you print, and then select "Pick up" by your regular driver. They come to your residence the next business day, they bring the label, slap it on the pkg, and return it. More than likely, they won't bother to ask you, "What's in it..." They just take it. The UPS Stores have the luxury of being able to scruitinize packages, etc. etc. The drivers don't have the time. They just pick it up. Now, you have to be there when they come, (and you won't know when that is, unless you're also getting something delivered that day). If you aren't, they'll leave the label for you and you can try to catch them on another day.

See if that works for ya.

A return to Amazon only requires that you print out the label and put in in the package it came in or another package and drop it off at the U.P.S. store
I have never ever been asked what was in a package at U.P.S. or Kohls.
Whoever waited on you is needed to be scolded by his or her boss as well as the Amazon store.

If you have a gun that needs to go to a manufacturer it has to go to the main U.P.S. or Fed EX office to ship.
Same with Ammo.
If you did not get a return shipping label, It is on you.

I had UPS deliver a few hundred rounds of 9mm from PSA LAST week. It was obvious what it was based on size and weight of the package. Guess it depends if you are a high value customer for them. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Woke azzhats! :cautious: (n)

The U.P.S. store has the return tag and that is all they need or want, I'm thinking the OP just did not print out the tag and just took it to get sent back.
Amazon is the easiest place on the planet to return anything.
The last thing I returned was a harness for my dog. It was marked with the wrong size and I sent it back without a problem. I could actually have had the truck pick it up at my house but I was going out that evening.

Seem to recall the local UPS store telling me that they cannot ship firearms or ammunition for the UPS stores.

So I send car parts or wheel weights....

Right. I have had several shipments of ammo and also AR parts from my supplier sent by UPS. Of course, you can tell it's ammo by weight as well as the "gravelly jingle noise" that ammo (especially 22LR) makes. Never had a problem. I'd have to believe that UPS doesn't want to lose the business of parts and ammo merchants. But UPS Stores are a different animal. I can see them screening pkgs.

Now, if you took the pkg to a UPS Distribution Ctr for shipping (as opposed to a UPS Store), would you have the same issue?

I think you got a dweeb at the counter that probably didn’t know the difference or care once you mentioned anything to do with the word “gun”.

I had 500rds delivered today by UPS. No issues.

If they ask again……car parts.

Nah, use the term machined parts. It's worked for a long time for me

I was shipping a shotgun barrel to be threaded for choke tubes and I went to the nearest UPS store where they told me they couldn't ship it because it was a gun part and that I would need to go to the main UPS hub in the next county. Instead, I just drove to the next UPS store a few miles down the road and shipped a "metal tube" with no problems.

I should have noted that while I got the scope through Amazon, the manufacturer (Primary Arms) was handling the refund and I was shipping directly to them - on my dime, as per their policy.

Shari has bought from another store through Amazon and and usually books. When they send the wrong one, It goes back to Amazon.
Always go to the Amazon site and orders and there is easy to follow instructions on returns.
They do not have a problem on returns, especially when it is not what you ordered or a wrong item.
Too late for you now, but a good learning event to know the next time if you have to return anything.
I just hope the 3rd. party store refunds your money as fast as Amazon would have.

My friend owns a UPS Store (and before that, it was a Mail Boxes Etc. store).
I'll ask him what the real policy is on shipping anything related to firearms.

I've been getting my ammo shipped there for years - I have a private mail box there.
No worries about porch pirates.

Will report back.

And next time, just tell them it is a "telescope".
Which is factually accurate.
