Wow! I purchased one of these yesterday. Outstanding! Everybody needs one of these UpLULA universal mag loaders.

I used it on mags for my single stack Sig 1911 45, my XD40 subcompact double stack, my Witness 40 compact, my Witness 45 double stack, and my Glock G19. It just flawlessly and effortlessly loaded them all. The only slight hiccup was a headspace problem. I'm referring to the space between my ears. It is too small. Had trouble getting the loader to turn loose of one of the mags and cussed a bit but then noticed the loader has a lock and I had inadvertently locked it. Duhhhh! My bad!

I have never found but two things that work even better than advertised. One of them is the UpLULA mag loader and the other is ExLax.

Not the "prettiest accessory" I have purchased (That honor goes to holster by Little Bear Holsters!)
but definitely worth the bucks-

Especially for the M&P 9 - the dual stack mags can literally be a real PAIN to load

What's the matter, you folks don't like "load thumb"? :rolf

I don't use a loader myself, I can load faster than the device and don't need a hard surface to load any mag which may not be available when you need one.

Learning to load manually is very important, once you can load while holding a conversation without looking at the mag, fine, use the loader all you like. Just don't negate the learning curve manually, one day in the field, you may need that skill.

Good thought, Brownie. However, after 50 years of stuffing them in the hard way, my thumb appreciates the break it is getting.

If I'm carrying the Glock, that gives me 34 rounds before having to reload a mag. If after 34 rounds I haven't cleared the field enough for a little reloading break, I probably deserve to be shot anyway.:laughing

I've only used the simple mag loader that came with my SR9 once, and that was just to see how it's done, as I've never needed one before. It's pretty much just a paperweight, now.

I used to play a lot of guitar and bass, so I guess my fingers might be a little stronger.

jimmills,

I concur, if you've got the muscle memory to load subconsciously, the tool is a convenience. I'd hate to think new shooters were going to this tool before they developed the skills to load in the dark, while watching a BG, etc.

Know this is a old thread but wanted to comment. I'm a newbie. Listen, I do computer stuff all day and if I had to load ammo by hand I would never practice enough. I typically go through about 200 rounds into two 12 round clips in a practice session once a week and there "aint no friggin way" I could do it without a UPLULA loader. I can't imagine any situation where you would be in a gunfight and need to hand load magazines after you emptied them. Brownie you must have been a lumberman or something. I can tell you are very knowlegable and practiced so my hat is off to you for being able to do this. Do they have magazines with less tension on the spring than others? Maybe mine are very stiff cause they are relatively new even though they've had about 800 rounds through the two.

The good thing about the Uplula is that it is universal within a range of caliber. Its spring loaded and you are limited only by how fast you can pick up the round out of the box or off the table. Loading is limited to how fast you move and with practice it takes about a second a round with no effort. You can buy them online for about $30 and in good sporting goods stores for about $35. None of the gun shops around me that I have been to even carry it.

Actually I just thought of holding 4-5 rounds in my hand and could quicken the load process even faster. Going to try that tomorrow at the range.

Vince,

I do computer work, fiber and copper cable installs and push the little buttons on the test equipment too.

But you haven't lived until you manually load two - three hundred rounds in a straight stack 45 mags on a Saturday visit to the range and the lips of the mag slip between the thumb nail and meat for a little jab just to be sure you stay focused.:aarg:aarg:rolf

Hey, all you XD guys:

How does the upLula compare with the speedloader that comes with the XD Gear? I used the Glock speedloader and was unimpressed. Is the XD version any better?

Thanks!

I found the XD loader pretty much unworkable. Love the UpLula for range loading and it works with my 40 and 9mm interchangeably.

The loader that comes with the XD's are crap. Absolutely get the UPLULA and you won't look back. I use it at every range session without fail. It helps to maximize my range time and spend more time and ammo actually firing the gun.

I can't think of a situation where I would need to hand load in a speedy manner. I carry an extra mag and no loose rounds...so unless I'm caught in an all-out zombie attack in a Wal-Mart and I kick open the ammo case...and even then, the case would be empty.

Seems like more of a priority for LE or military.
