I know laws just recently changed in Puerto Rico. Last year I traveled to Maine with my handgun in a locked pelican case and declared it before boarding the plane. I have a Florida resident Ccw. How hard is it going to be to go to PR with my handgun? Should I even worry about taking it? Going on vacation with my wife and kids so we won’t be going to any bars or clubs. Just kids friendly places. Thanks in advance.

I haven't got a clue because when I read the new PR firearms laws, I got really confused and decided I'd likely need the help of an attorney familiar with Puerto Rico's new firearms laws to know for sure. The updated laws only went into effect 01 January 2020 and for that reason alone, I myself wouldn't consider taking a firearm with me until more is known about how correctly the new laws are being enforced by law enforcement. :dunno

Gulp not sure I want to do that. Any suggestions on who I can call to find out? I’m not going until March 19 but wanted to start researching now

I'm going in April. Lemme know! :laughing

Actually, this will be a good one to ask US Law Shield. I'll call next week.

Note, Florida DOES NOT HONOR Puerto Rico’s permits and that might complicate matters. Reciprocity generally means BOTH WAYS. :dunno

Have you checked with the TSA? Also, have you checked with your airline to make sure they've adjusted their policies and procedures for the new laws in Puerto Rico? What did they say? You don't want to get all the way to the airport and have problems at the airline counter.

Any news on this? It would seem that many of us are in the same position!

Welcome to FCC from Palm Beach County, Dlburro! :wave

Since you've now made you first post to FCC, without an introduction, please take the time to post you're own Introduction to FCC so the members will get to know you. You can do that by going to the Introduce Yourself section of The Front Office and start your very own introduction thread. Then you'll find that lots of other FCC members will know to chime in to properly welcome you to the forum, and will be more responsive in answering questions!

In case you weren't aware, you can stay current on pertinent Florida Statutes regarding use of force and firearms law by going right to the source using these links for Chapter 776 - Justifiable Use of Force and Chapter 790 - Weapons and Firearms. I'd also like to suggest you obtain your own copy of FLORIDA FIREARMS Law, Use & Ownership by Jon Gutmacher!

Finally, I would like to recommend you consider joining Florida Carry and join the effort to protect the rights of Floridians to keep and bear arms!

Again, welcome to FCC! :grin
