I spent the last 3 days in my annual training at work. Two of those days were strictly firearms. The first day was regular qualification ( Glock 21 and Remington 870) along with tactical, point shooting and combat shooting. I haven't done shooting while moving in a long time, it was really great to practice while moving forward and backward depending on the threat. The timed shooting was great as well, it's amazing how much quicker you can get with a little practice. I wish my local range would let you draw from your holster and shoot. The second day we did simunitions, they are basically like a paint ball fired from a regular 9mm. The realism using these is awesome, your heart starts pumping like you are getting shot at for real. The one handed reloading drills and the "shoot or don't shoot" scenarios really open your eyes to the possibilities. The split second it takes to determine if someone is holding a cell phone or a 38 special could cost you or them a life. If you ever have the opportunity to do any training like this go for it. I'm fortunate that I got paid to have fun :)

Good to hear you had some fun and trained in important aspects of staying alive with a firearm.

I'm going to be setting up a class like that with airsofts this fall in central florida [ to be announced in the near future ]. The first day will be airsofts and learning 6 life saving skills from 4-21 feet and the second day we'll run force on force with the same guns and learn some of the better tactics for staying alive at combative distances when confronted by one or two threats.

That sounds like some great training that you will be providing. I would highly recommend that anyone who carries to attend that type of training if they can. It's as close to the real thing as you want to be! The more training you can get the better. I have done this type of training before, but every time you do it, it reinforces how easy it is to make the wrong decision if you don't practice.

I have been to the WAC quite a few times, but only for work related training and we were the only ones on the range. I will have to check them out on my own time, that would be nice to get in some drawing practice with my concealed carry weapon. Thanks for the info.

I work as a Detention Deputy. We don't carry firearms inside the facility, but we carry on different posts outside and around the facility so we are required to be proficient. I can sometimes go months without ever touching a firearm at work so I like to try and stay proficient on my own. The last thing I want to be is not prepared.
