Well, I've been carrying now for two or three months, and it has turned into a quite natural event... slide the .38 snub in it's Mika's holster into my pocket and forget about it. Sometimes, the Glock 27 rides IWB in my Crossbreed holster.

It's getting hotter and I've been really sweaty many times, and wonder about the effect on my guns. It's easy to just keep carrying without thinking about maintenance.

I have cleaned the barrels a few times after some really sweaty days, but maybe not as frequently as I should. I wonder if there's a suggested maintenance routine for carrying concealed, especially in hot, sweaty climates.

One other thing that occured to me is how the moisture may be affecting the ammo. It's certainly not being 'stored' in a dry climate when strapped to my wet waist. I wouldn't want a dud when a kapow is required.

Thanks for sharing any thoughts on this.

Back when I was working tugs.. My G27 had been soaked with salt water at least a dozen times.... I only rinsed it off with fresh and went right back to carry... ammo always fired too

I have carried in Florida for years. Wipe it down with an oil or silicone cloth before and after you carry. It is surprising how quickly surface rust can develop from the salts in sweat. Most modern ammo has sealed primers and there should be no moisture transfer to the powder unless you submerge the weapon totally and for a long period of time. As with any SD firearm, ammo should be inspected and rotated regularly. Other than that, maintenance is the same as always. It generally takes a lot of neglect to cause a firearm to cease functioning.

I have the unfortunate ability to not sweat very much, which means I overheat if the outside air even thinks about going about 80-degrees.

However, when I do clean my gun, I wipe it down with a silicon-impregnated when I'm done. If you have a worry about excessive, just wipe the gun down with a silicon-impregnated cloth before you put the gun away every night.

My suggestion would be to look at the DeSantis Nemesis holster first. Better retention in the pocket when drawing because of the exterior material, which also happens to be more sweat resistant. I sweat A LOT, ride a scooter, and never have a problem.

I have a Kel-Tec P32 now but carried the P-3AT before that. Same holster and basically the same gun. I make sure to get to the range a minimum of once a month, shoot my carry ammo when there (first three are Federal HS, rest are FMJ range ammo), and break it down to clean once every two or three months.

Not saying my routine will work for you but I think the DeSantis would help; in the pocket carry situation, at least.

The finishes on many modern pitols are virtually impervious to corrosion (the Tennifer finish on Glocks being a prime example), but it's the small parts like sights, pins, springs, etc. that are often the most vulnerable to rust.

I learned a long time ago the value of a can of gun scrubber. A quick spary will displace any moisture and oil. A fersh dab of oil and a quick wipe with a silicon cloth will keep your gun from tarnishing.

If you keep a silicon cloth handy you'll only need to do this once or twice a month.

Birchwood has a product that might be ideal for you called Babricade.

BARRICADE Rust Protection protects your firearms from rust. It rapidly drives out moisture from metal pores and deposits a transparent coating which seals the surface with a protective film. Withstands 500 hours in ASTM humidity test and 96 hours in ASTM salt spray test. BARRICADE Rust Protection is also an excellent penetrant for loosening rusty or frozen parts, as well as a good lubricant and an effective bore cleaner. Contains FPR to wipe off corrosive fingerprints on all your firearms. Available in spout or aerosol cans.

So far I haven't had a problem. And I sweat a lot! I carry my spare G27 mag in my pocket. G27 in my crossbreed. I wear a undershirt though. I have too cause I sweat so much. This helps with holster comfort since it's between my skin & the holster.
