A rough calculation of the estimated total number of braces and the estimated number of registrations that the ATF can process per day/year shows that it should take about 3000 years for them to actually get all the new registrations out to the brace owners.

That won't be a problem... because I predict they will get VERY few applications.

How many bump stocks were turned in...... counting with 1 hand.....
A different situation. There was no provision for registering bump stocks. They were flat-out banned and had to be turned in or destroyed.

Here are the compliance options for the braces:

I suspect this will go much like the "Assault Weapons" registration requirements for NY and CT: 6% and 12% compliance, respectively.

Sooo, when is the final date for registration?
120 days after it's published in the Federal Register (which I think is expected to be some time next week).

A rather unfortunate (fortunate?) Freudian Slip by the Alphabet Agency. On page 217 of the 293 page document....

Everyone knows it's politically motived and does/will do nothing for gun violence just like all there other "sensible gun control" drivel. All they care about is their agenda.
Did you catch the slip?

Off with the brace I guess.
And, if I'm understanding correctly, you have to effectively destroy it or render it such that it cannot be re-attached.

"Permanently remove or alter...", which is not the same as effectively destroying it or rendering it such. It is an "or" statement.
You left off this qualifying clause....

I read that to mean that the brace is rendered inoperable. SO that it CANNOT BE reattached.

Well, I interpret everything before the "or" as resolution option 1 and everything after the "or" as resolution option 2. The word "and" is not in the sentence.

But - as you - IANAL. I just have opinions and like a good dialogue from time to time, and as time permits.😉
It really just goes to show that either the folks that write these rules / laws are either morons and illiterates.... or it's very much intentionally obtuse.

Does this mean I can register my braced pistol as a SBR (Short Barrel Rifle) at NO cost? Once it becomes a SBR can I leave the brace on or put any stock I like on it (YES) And it does not need to be engraved with my name and city, right? (YES). About 6 months ago I SBR an AR15 (8" barrel) and a CZ Scorpion so I could put a real stocks on them. Back then it cost me 200 bucks each. Now its free
I'd be careful about registering for free or not.

WARNING to those of you who own "braces" and are going to apply for "amnesty" and "free" registration!

I just watched that. Does seem like a valid concern and cause for worry. I can only imagine the letters people would receive after the 88 days.
It's more than a valid concern. The ATF told him flat out that after 88 days, they would take "enforcement action."

I wonder if I can purchase a brace-equipped "pistol", register it for free, then attach a proper stock to it since it would then be considered an SBR.
The short answer is: Yes. Once it's registered as an SBR, you can attach any kind of stock you want.

Now the question is, what will dealers do with all their inventory of brace-equipped pistols? I sure wouldn't be interested a purchasing an SBR with a lame-ass brace instead of a proper shoulder stock.
They can remove the brace and sell them as pistols... Or put real stocks on them and sell them as SBRs, eh?
