Can anyone recommend a St. Lucie/Martin County area range with a decent selection of guns to rent (preferably with a selection that might lead me to selecting a EDC weapon)? The fiance and myself are new to handguns and will probably require a fair bit trial before we find something that works for each of us.

(Coincidentally if there is a great range with a good selection of rentals in either Palm Beach or Indian River counties I wouldn't be adverse to giving it chance either)

Don't expect much . . period.
The only indoor range in Martin/St Lucie counties, is Self Defense up in PSL.
They do have some rentals, but I would certainly not categorize it as 'extensive'.
Furthermore, they have adopted the same BS policy as ranges in Palm Beach county, that you can only use THEIR ammo - which you have to purchase at double regular retail prices.
They wll not get any support from me - EVER AGAIN.
I will rather spend more money on gas and drive out to the outdoor ranges at Okeechobee or up to Indian River public range up in Vero.

You nailed it. I live 5 minutes from them, litteray 3 miles away, and drive over an hour to "enjoy" my range visits every weekend. Not to mention they have ZERO ventilation and NO a/c so after 10 minutes you have lead poisoning, smell like ****, and feel like you smoke 20 packs of cigarrettes all the while sweating like you ran 5 miles. nope, ill never ever ever never ever go there if it were the last range on this planet. the managers cocky, and could care less. He even had the balls to tell me he personally buys most of his ammo from walmart and puts a markup on it because "he has to make money and walmsrt sells ammo cheaper than he can get it"

The next closest range i go to that has rentals is off us1 right after the airport in vero beach. nice place, emplyees, range time is 10 all day, rentals available, and great prices on guns along with cold a/c. Dont really know the name of it. they are a pawn shop/gun shop/gun range all in one.

The next choice for me is shoot straight. no a/c, but livable. good ventilation. off of southern blvd. just opened. not sure on the rentals... like vero, you can bring own ammo, 13 shoot all day, 11 if you buy their ammo and huge selevtion of firearms thats are priced at retail that you have to "talk them down on" so price around and do your homework.

I LOVE to go to indian river outdoor range in sebastian off i-95. no rentals, 10 all day fee, shoot own ammo, and just very peaceful. of course, when you get your own firearms, check em out.

Hope this was helpful. Anyone wanna go in on opening a st lucie range thats shuts self defense down? lol...

The name of the Range in Vero Beach is "Indian River Sportsman". 4185 North US1. Their number is 772-778-4844.. They have 12 lane as far as I can remember.

I agree the Sebastian County range is also nice, but you will have to get on their WEB page since they do close certain days during the week for Law Enforcement.

Hope that helps.

No rentals but take a look at Martin County Sportsman's Assoc.

http://www.mcsa.cc/
Requires membership - and it is not cheap to join. You have to shoot VERY frequently to break even on their sign-up fees and annual menbership fees.

There is also Okeechobee Shooting Sports http://www.okshooting.com/Okeechobee_Shooting_Sports/Welcome.html out north of Okeechobee and about the same distance as Indian River range. Also outdoor range, byo ammo (except steel casings), but no rentals that I know of.
