Well, had a situation arrise today and it got me thinking just what i would do... this is what happened,

I was riding shotgun with my buddy james driving and had our friend katie in the backseat behind me. There was a jeep making a u turn and we couldnt pull up behind it, so he pulled up along side infront. anyways, my friend not even thinking goes to bust the u first cause he cleared the car passing by first. the jeep went at the same time and cut us off so he could go first and stopped in the middle of the road to scream at james and flick us off while his two male friends laughed. The only one with a threating demeanor at the time was the driver of the other car. we pulled into the same parking lot but went to a diffrent part of the shopping plaza witch was probably a good thing cause the guy seemed pretty pissed.

Anyway i was thinking for that half a second and knew if the guy, or guys got out of the jeep my glock was coming off my hip and onto my lap. Luckly nothing happened but it deffinatly got me thinking, what if they all hopped out and were comming tward the car, what if only one did. I know if they had a weapon i would be quicker to pull my gun out to atleast have it ready.

not sure what i would or could do by law if the driver got out and approched james' side to confront him, with violence or not. I know if they would have tryed jumping us in the parking lot what i would have done but ill keep that to myself. My demeanor was never angry, and did not escalate anything, or even flick them off back.

Anyways, im just glad i was armed cause i know if : censored would have hit the fan with 3 hot heads i could have possibly kept me and my friends from harm, and it gave a nice sence of security. :dancingbanana

What would you do in a simalar situation? what if they all got out and tryed opening your doors but appeared unarmed blah blah blah... Just something to think about.:drinks

I guess we are all prepared to act or get out of a situation as the driver but as a passenger you have little control over what the driver will do. It's also the same when you are with a group of people and they don't know you carry. Someone in the group might engage in a confrontation not knowing that it might put you in a bad position if that confrontation escalated.

In your situation the best you could have done would be to tell James to get out of there and if he could not then present your weapon only if absolutely needed. It might be impossible to calm three angry men but you don't want to be seen as the aggressor. The good thing is that you were fully aware at all times.

776.013 Home protection; use of deadly force; presumption of fear of death or great bodily harm.--

That means that just approaching the car yelling and making threats even if it was all three is not reason to show your weapon. Putting it on your lap out of sight next to you or somewhere else where it is not seen by anyone is probably a good precaution. But unless they are physically trying to get inside the vehicle or trying to pull someone out of the vehicle to harm them you wouldn't be justified on showing and definitely would not be justified in using the gun. I would roll the windows up and lock the doors, if they break the windows to get to you, you have a definite excuse to show your weapon and use it. If you leave the doors unlocked or the windows rolled down a jury of your liberal peers could say that you were looking for a confrontation. Best thing to do is tell your friend in no uncertain terms to drive away from there. You can save face later by letting them know that you were armed and didn't want to take any ones life unless it was absolutely necessary. If they jump in their car and come after you then I would say make sure you are locked and loaded because they are bringing the fight to you and you have done your best to flee the situation.

Tell your buddy nice driving. I see all kinds of road rage stuff every day. Most folks are just in too big of a hurry to get nowhere. Ask yourself this...what would I have done if my pistol were in the shop getting some real kool work done to it and I was unarmed...you probably would have either run or got out and kicked some butt. Just cause you got a weapon does not mean you have to use it. My choice (since I am 51 and old) would be to just ignore them and go some place else. If they chose to follow me I would call 911 and let them know that 3 males were chasing me with the intent to do me harm and see what 911 recommends. With that call on perminant recording, if something did happen and you had to resort to deadly force it would be well documented.

There is no place for road rage if you carry. The pedal on the right is the go pedal, use it, try your best to get away and call 911 if they follow you. Your weapon is a last ditch tool to keep you from harm. Sounds to me like you kept a cool head and avoided who knows what.

+1 just remember once you cross that line, life will change for you, your family and the life and family of the person on the receiving in and once you pull be ready to fire . so for your and your loved ones just make sure it is a last resort . and yes I have crossed that line and to this day ,I have nightmares about , and it happened 20 years ago , and ruled a just shoot .
