S&W 38 Special Serial number ID

I'm hoping one of the forum mmbers can tell me the year and date of manufacture for an old Smith and Wesson 38 Special CTG. This police service revolver has the following serial number S 844508. Thanks in advance

S serial number prefixes are probably going to be before the early 70's, then S+W went to N prefix on their revos.

Give me the model and - [ dash ] number if it has one on the yoke, I might be able to narrow it further for you on DOM.
