I have always thought that SW was the way to go with revolvers..
But dang, what a price.

I want a revolver, just becuase my wife says I can. As I do not see a point of spending more then 400 dollars only on 6 shoots,
I would like some input on the Rossi 38 Spesial, mode R85104l:http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=83504

and the Taurus 38 Special, model 82:http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=84124

What are the difference between 38 Special and 38 Super?
Oh, and sorry, I seem unable to access both Rossi and Taurus homepage, therefore the links.

What would you choose, and why? Thanks for all info.

.38 Super is a bit longer than a .38 Special, and is normally used in 1911s for competition. Don't think I've ever seen a revo chambered in .38 super, though SW did make them.

Given the choice between the two, I'd pick the Taurus all day long. Just a better revo. I've had several over the years, and they were all good shooters.

Like RCR said, the .38 Super is an autopistol cartridge, although S&W did at one point manufacture an 8-shot N frame chambered in .38 Super that used moon clips. But it wasn't cheap.

I too would choose Taurus over Rossi.

I steer people away from the Taurus [ edited to add--aluminum ] lightweights, though their all steel revos are good guns.

I've seen two 85UL Taurus' go down and need the frames replaced as the shell extractor [ steel ] ate the aluminum away as the cylinder rotated and locked the gun up so bad the cylinder could not be opened on one and the other was worked open but you could see it was eaten and not serviceable.

As far as I know, both women in the classes had their guns replaced by Taurus without problems, but I don't recommend the lightweights due to the two I've seen go belly up after only 6-700 rds or less.

Well, just to be an ass.....:D

I've had my Taurus UL Titanium for over 10 years...no issues (granted, I've not put thousands of rounds through it).

Rvrctyrngr,

I think the titanium UL's would be just fine, the two I saw eat themselves were aluminum framed. My guess? The titanium is stronger than their aluminum and they don't heat treat the aluminum hard enough.

Could have also been a bad batch of those frames but hard to imagine the two in classes were from the same batch, chances are pretty thin in that regard. I edited the post above to clarify the aluminum side not the titanium's in my recounting.

Gotcha. My frame is aluminum. Cylinder and barrel are Ti. That thing is '5 for sure', and that's about it. I hate shooting it. I shoot it just enough to remain proficient in point-shoulder and from retention. Any more than that is just masochistic. If it's got 700 rounds through it in 10 years, I'd be surprised.

After reading your post, I'll keep a little closer eye on it. Thanks.
