Question about where you got the gun?

2345 Views 23 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  Glock4488
I'm worried about carrying my glock. For one reason. Do the cops ask where you got the gun?

Does It matter?

See I bought it from a friend a few years ago. No paperwork or nothing and he's not a dealer. Just a friend.

But we kindof had a falling out. And if they ask me where I got it I don't want to use his name. Not that he got it illegally. Actually I don't know how he got it.

But what do I tell the cops if they want to know where it came from. I don't want to get my friend in trouble.

i don't know the laws on buying or selling of guns.

Thanks in advance.

Q: "Where did you get the gun?"
A: "I bought it from a friend awhile back"

Can't see why they would ask, unless your a felon or committing a crime and get caught with it. So you should be good to go. :thumsup
Thanks Devilfrog...........it's that easy:) Cool.......I don't plan on committing any felonies.

I'm like to think i'm one of the good guys.:drinks
You may want to go to this site: http://pas.fdle.state.fl.us/pas/item/displayGunSearch.a to check and see if the firearm is stolen or not.
If you don't know the laws of buying and selling guns in FL, why did you buy it?

<well, someone had to ask>
If its not on the hotlist........
"Hell.... Officer, I dunno" should suffice
I knew someone would be like that.

Paragon.....Gee for protection. The chance to buy it was there, It was then or never. I couldn't say "hey wait your telling me this is ok and your a friend but let me go read up on gun laws before I buy it. Not everyone does things in the right order. I'm not perfect:deadhorse:smack

I've done alot of stupid things, that's why I asked the question.

I figured if someone was going to hurt my family and i could protect them, I would and worry about the conseqeunces later. I'll do time if it keeps my wife and son from harm. Without hesitation.

Alot in my life has changed since I became disabled. Until your whole life is thrown for a hell ride can I say that? you can't understand. One minute your running an Iron crew in the 100degree heat. And the next day you cant walk a block and your stuck like that. And the doctors say there's no cure. you have to learn to accept it.

Well that's more info then you probably wanted,,,,,,,,,,,whew got a little venting there........LOL Actually it's not funny but if I don't laugh I'll ........well.

Thanks to those that anwsered my question.

Tampasgt.....thanks for that link. It's not stolen.....whew.:aarg:dancingbanana
If anything they might run the numbers to see if it is stolen, if not no problem. If it is you better give up the name and hope they don't charge you with receiving stolen property.

My pleasure Sir, that is what this site is all about .. helping others who believe in the Second Amendment. :thumsup
Just tell the cop "None of your : censored business, pig!"

They love it when citizens assert their rights like that. :rolf
"Where'd ya get the gun kid?"

"oh, I didn't tell ya?

Must be none of your damned business :rolf

I call it the human factor. We are all flawed. It started with Adam. There is NO ONE who doesn't make mistakes. God is perfect, the best the rest of us can do is to pursue excellence. Sadly most don't do that.
It was a good and HONEST question. We should all feel safe asking questions here. Think about it. You could spend good money and ask a question of a firearms instructor, you will get one man's answer. Look at all the good responses you got. Multiple, and from some guys who could teach instructors.
Keep the faith and keep asking questions! I am!
Sorry for your accident. We will have all the answers when we get to heaven!
Best to you!

"I bought it from a friend years ago" as someone has already said should suffice. There is no requirement to have proof of purchase or registration. As long as you are not a felon and it is not stolen you are okay.

It all started with EVE!
For the first and only time, it wasn't the man's fault.
And we need whatever good press we can get, rare as it is. :D
However, he followed closely behind (probably the no-fig-leaf thing).
This thread is getting hijacked by the chickens... or was it the egg? I dunno.... which ever came first anyhow?

You do know EVE made Adam eat them thar apples :D
Wow, drilled a nerve. No need to get defensive; we're mostly all on the same side here.
Eve blamed it on the snake. Poor snake didn't have a leg to stand on.
That's really a good one :rolf :rolf :rolf

Glock4488, Sorry to hear about your predicament; in July 2003 I had to get major back surgery, and before the surgery, the surgeon told me: "Don't worry, there are 70% chances you'll be able to walk". In my mind, it immediately translated "There is a 30% chances I'll have to trade my Harley for a wheel-chair".
Fortunately, after a few weeks, things started to improve.
So I understand a little how you feel.
Whatever they say, DON'T GIVE UP !!!
My wife was given 3 months to live when she was 16 (colon cancer), we've been together for 37 years; actually she had a near death experience with flat monitoring and doctors starting to leave ...
Those who start to know me on this forum have probably realized I have a "wicked" sense of humor.
I love the looks on people face when I tell them: "Yeah, my wife died 9 years before I met her :rolf.
All this to say: DON'T GIVE UP !!!, miracles happen if you believe they will.
"Well Officer, I bought it while vacationing in Glockenspiel."

Bing, bang , boom!:rolf:rolf
