We've talked about getting ugly when it's necessary.
Ugly is a term that's been used here in several threads in terms of "letting ugly out", etc.
Ugly is used to defend ourselves with extreme prejudice, with resolve and no remorse, with malicious and bad intent to maim or kill another, not defending, who is threatening our person/s. It's a mentality of sorts to get "down and dirty" and is different from just defending ourselves.
Ugly is that guy who is the bad personality in everyone [ whether they know it or not ], who has to go to work in ugly situations where you live or die based on how quickly you let ugly out and how much training ugly has had.

Ugly used to visit often, starting back in high school. Last time he visited was in London - Ugly had to talk to a couple of inter-city youths who took offense at Americans in their city.... Try to keep him under control and being a fat gray haired dude, doubt many know how close to the surface he lives....

I've only had to let ugly out a few times, both times to stand up to bullies and both times, they bullied me no more! So I know he exists but as I've grown older, more wise, and better trained, I've been able to avoid the need for ugly to do more than just peek out of his cave. However, should the need arise, he'll be let out in less than a heartbeat.
I think I know ugly but he's never had to come out and go to work
