Welcome from Deerfield Beach. I used to live in Plantation off Nob Hill and Cleary. The closest place to you for your CCW permit is Weston Arms right of 84/595 on the eastbound side. It's just east of Carmax. They have a brand new range and a limited selection of guns. The folks behind the counter seem nice enough, but their prices are right around MSRP, so you're not saving any money there.
I took my CCW course there and although everyone was real friendly and helpful, the class was not all that informative. Literally everything I was "taught" that day I had already learned on my own by reading on the interwebs. They go through the requirements, and that's fine, but there are other places that offer more and better.
Their website ( http://www.westonarms.us/
) claims that if you follow their process you can get your permit in as little as ten days
. I'm sure that was pre-election because now they're talking 6 weeks or so. I'll be happy if it happens that fast for me.
The range is brand new (as in it opened on January 12th or thereabouts) so I've never gone there, but new is usually nice.
You can probably do better than Weston Arms, but you can also surely do worse.
there is also an outdoor firing range at the west end of 595 in Markham park
. They've got a lot of rules, but from what i've read it's a nice place to go.
p.s. From what I've read, good 9mm carry guns include Glock 26 and Kahr PM9. If you're price conscious, you might want to look into a S&W SW9VE
