Finally made it to the range today to try out my new Phoenix Arms HP22A. I picked it up as a practice firearm for the range. Very inexpensive pistol. It is about the same size as a Ruger LCP or Desert Micro Eagle. The weapon fires .22LR. It is a fraction of the cost to practice with vs. my larger caliber weapons. At about .03 to .04 cents a round, I found the training value immense. I was a little leary about picking up the "midnight special" due to the various reports, but overall, most reports were positive. A select few, it seems, had issues with FTE. The weapon is covered by a lifetime warranty. I fired 200 rounds today. Beautiful, cool weather day to shoot, by the way! Not a single jam or issue. The weapon was accurate for me from 1 to 15 yds. I did not fire further than 15 yds. I was only able to rapid fire a few times. It is not allowed at the range I was firing at, so they would only allow me to squeeze out a few double or triple taps. Otherwise, at a slow fire of one shot per 1 to 2 seconds, no issues with the weapon. Overall, I have found it a great value to practice short range pistol engagements. I just cleaned it and I'm looking forward to firing with it again! We'll see how it holds up.

Good practice for draw and first target acquisition/first shot.
Double/triple tap don't mean much due to lack of recoil.

In the same vein, I used to practice with an airsoft that was the "spitttin' image" of my G-26 and felt pretty much the same.
For about a year, I practiced 4-5 times a week in the house.
It did improve my time from draw to first shot quite a bit.
Then a friend dropped it and it is broken.
Now, I try to go to the range once a month and shoot 30 rds; don't really feel the need to shoot more.
I am glad it is a 9mm, the price of ammo is still decent.

This said, any training is better than no training, and live fire, even with a .22 beats dry fire, as long as you realize the limitations.

Have fun :drinks

Happy Snaps

GS, I'm slacking. Here are the pics. Snapped em with a G17, LCP, and MDE for size comparison. About the same as an LCP in length. In the grips, felt about the same size as the MDE. Slightly wider than the LCP in the grips. All without the pinky mag extensions, just regular mags.

Stay safe over there. They still serving the Rip Its?

I don't want to be a bearer of bad news but we have to send 6-7 out of 10 of those guns back to the manufacturer for repair at the shop. I've tried to get the boss to stop carrying them for 3 years now.

As a range gun, that's the only reason I'd even sell one to someone at this point. Seems yours is one that might work out for a time, but I would suggest not ever carrying it with the intent to defend yourself with it as a BUG.

Fingers crossed

Mr. Brownie,

Thank you for the comments. Thankfully, I made an informed decision before purchasing it. :) It is a fun and super cheap range pistol to shoot. Definitely not a good BUG. I'm with you there! I think, not just the low caliber, potential "lemon" trends, but also the amount of safeties on it. Wow.

By the way, I have been studying your threat focused site and your posts. Very inspirational. Good stuff.

Yes sir, the three safeties alone are enough to keep it from being considered a BUG. Thank California for those safeties :thumsup

Glad you find http://www.threatfocused.com/forums/index.php of value. Thanks for your thoughts :drinks
