Perfect for zombies!

Everybody knows .223 is perfect for defending against zombie attacks! Trying to decide on a good heavy defense round. Suggestions?

Rock River Arms w/ 7.5" barrel (1:7.5 twist)

Well, I was actually looking for a good heavy .223 or 5.56 round for my new toy.

I had a chance to buy a Barrett for a reasonable price a couple years ago, and I passed on it. I'm kicking myself now....

You've got a good twist rate for most anything "heavy." The problem right now is finding something. Most of what I've seen is 55 gr and very little 62 grain. You may have to hit the on-line sites to see what you can find unless you've got a good gun shop locally.

For zombies, aliens and invading U.N. troops, you can't go wrong with SS109/M855 62 gr. steel core penetrator rounds. :D

I also like the 60 gr. Hornady TAP load; it's very accurate in my Bushy. :thumsup

I used the Hornady TAPs for my SHTF round in my CAR15/HBAR. They have multiple choices on bullet gr. also. have not checked on availability lately.

Yup...that 'heavy' .223 round will be just perfect if we're invaded by poodles. :D
OH HECK! I forgot all about those damn zombie poodles, I heard they walk around chanting, ANKLES! ANKLES!

Oh jeez, not you too. :doh

Fine then...while you get overrun and eaten by zombies due to your lower magazine capacity and slower between shot recovery times, I'll be leisurely dispatching the undead with my rapid precision head shots with fewer reloads to slow me down.

Hey, zombie poodles can be a real pain in the ankle. :aarg

Since you HAVE to shoot zombies in the head anyway, a .223 is adequate. Of course, since zombies travel in packs, a single, well aimed .308 could take 3 or 4 out at once.

Ahh, should have known the .308 & .45 crew would show up here! LOL! Yes, yes, we're all fully aware that the only effective rifle round is .308 and the only effective pistol round is .45.

In regards to a round, I may have a lead on some Hornady TAP 75gr LE ammo. It's supposedly the true 'LE only' ammo - we'll see.

All kidding aside, that is a nice looking weapon. As to ammo, there can be some significant differences in performance due to barrel length and rate of twist. Below is a link to a fairly good site that covers round performance well. The 75gr TAP is usually a good performer on visible targets. Enjoy.:ak

If not mistaken, the orig. TAP/LE came in red box and the TAP FPD is in black box.
If you get red box make sure you look at label as there are a vast difference between round options, see link.

Sorry, DE...just a 7.62x39 guy. In the AK platform it's as easy to control as 5.56, and accurate enough for zombie-dropping at (my) visible distances with a bullet that has 3 times the mass. I don't give up any capacity either, and ammo is cheaper/easier to find. :ak

That's why I have been looking at the 6.5 Grendel by Alexander Arms.

Well, the price is at $27 box. The box color was shown to be red, and the manufacturer's part number indicated it was the true LE. We'll see what comes in the mail....

Yeah, but at least I'm not using some dirty Commie weapon. :laughing

Why don't you bring your AK out to 3-Gun this weekend and let's see what it can do vs. my 'poodle shooter'? :D

Hey, they're not commies any more...(well, not any more than we are now, anyway).

That's not a fair challenge for the weapon, DE...give one of my AKs and a 590 to someone who can actually shoot at your level, I sure as hell can't! Hang on, let me get Miculek on the line. :D
