Today my lady and I took a trip out to the PBC Long Arms Shooting Range in West Palm beach. It's the first time there for me and I must say I like it. It's clean, well run and not crowded. All you have to do is register and sign a waiver only once for the year and just show your ID every time after that. They have a 50yds, 100yds and 200yds range. All in all it was a good day and the best part is it's only $5 for Palm Beach County residents and you get to bring your own ammo :thumsup. Here is a short video of today's shooting.

Hey NKM, looks like the little lady is already claiming the "bullseye" shots. You may end up buying another AR. :D

NK,

Nice shooting. It looked like you two were having fun. Did you ever figure out who was the better shot?????

One of my sons and I went out to the PBC Sheriff's Shooting Range this morning. What a great facility and only $5.00 each for admission and we were on the line for over 3 hours. The weather was beautiful to boot.

My son had a new scope for his AR15 that he wanted to zero in so I loaded up my Ultra 87 12 ga and took along some rifled slugs and we tried out the 50 yard range.

My son was having problems with his scope and a couple shooters offered to help him out and finally one of the Instructors got it lined up for him and gave him some pointers to boot.

Unfortunately I could only handle 7 rounds of Winchester 12 ga. Super X 1 oz. rifled hollow point slugs when my shoulder cried uncle. I didn't know that you could shoot standing so I used the shooting bench which focused most of the recoil onto my shoulder. Those rifled slugs are one brutal round to shoot but I did manage to get 4 shots within the circles of a 100 yard target and the other 3 on the paper.

An hour after I gave it up I saw a fella put up his AK and bring out his Mossberg 590 and was about to shoot a few slugs. Needless to say I was looking forward to seeing him shoot. He lasted about as long as I did but he knew one of the Instructors that gave him a couple boxes of Federal law enforcement "low recoil" rifled slugs to try out. He shared a box with me and told me the recoil was about 50% less than the Winchester. My shoulder was still a bit tender and I told him that I'd take his word for it and I'd give them a shot next time.

NkmG19,

Thanks for sharing the clip of your time on the range with your significant other.

What make/model optic were you using on that rifle?

Brownie
Thank you Brownie. The optic is a Sig Sauer holosight made for rifles. It's certainly no Eotech but for my purposes proved to be accurate and hold it's zero. The one problem I had was a little glare in the mid day sun but I realized that the brightness can be adjusted to compensate for the glare.

Is PBC the only county to require you to purchase your ammo at the range instead of using your own?
You didn't mention whether you were refering to the indoor or outdoor ranges.

The two (2) indoor ranges I'm familiar with in the West Palm area won't allow you to bring your own ammo and require that you use what they offer for sale.

The PBC Long Arms Range allows you to bring your own but I did notice that they checked the rounds used by a few people.

Cool video. I didn't know that place was there. I going to have to go check it out. I hate having to but ammo at the range.

It's wonderful because I've never seen it crowded and I bring my own ammo and target.

is there enough room there to shoot prone or kneeling?
Yes. There is enough room between each shooting bench and also behind the line for this. I have not seen anyone do this type of shooting there but the next time I go I'll ask the range officer if it's ok.
