I shouldn't even ask this question because the guy that told me I was carring overkill is my "brother-in - law" and guess what he was in the Coast Guard but got thrown out due to health issues.

But since he's one that "knows everything about everthing"

I made the mistake of letting him see me get dressed, and I usually carry my glock on my left handed holster, being that I'm left handed.....but this is where it gets me pissed,,,,,,,because he sees me putting my right holster with my 357 magnum. And immediatly i'm told that most shootings happen within 2 seconds so the guns would probably do me no good anyway,

I tried to explain calmly that not all muggings or robberies aren't carried out by ONE person. So if my glock runs out I have 6 more rounds then i'm screwed but hopefully they will all be dead.

I normally only carry my glock, but when I go out with this crazy crowd "inlaws" I would carry a bazooka if I could.

What do you think?:ak:ak:ak

Overkill?? Yeah probably, why not an extra mag?

Drill swapping them, count your rounds, and you can be back in battery with a mag swap pretty damned fast. BTW, I do not carry an extra mag.... if I can't either end it or get out of Dodge with 13 rounds, then it wasn't meant to be in the first place.

Tell your brother-in-law that this is the United States of America, and so far, is still a free country, and that he should mind his own d: censoredmn business.

Seriously, as long as the weapons you carry are legal by the Florida Statutes, it is no ones business but your own. Many LEO's carry backup weapons, so why shouldn't you?

Carry what you feel YOU need to do so. :thumsup

I very rarely carry an extra mag; I have 13 rds in my G26, sometimes 16 if I put the G-19 mag.
Like you, I don't really see having more "firepower".
However after reading a book called "The Best Defense" by Robert Waters (True stories of intended victims who defended themselves with a firearm), especially the second chapter, I have mixed feelings...

" ... most shootings happen within 2 seconds so the guns would probably do me no good anyway" What does that mean? If this ridiculous statement is true I guess all law enforcement should turn in their firearms since thay most likely won't have time to use them. Sounds like your brother in law doesn't have a clue.

I don't have an issue with anyone who chooses to carry more than one weapon. Fairly regularly, I carry a primary on my hip, a BUG in my pocket, and a knife or two.

Fastest reload is a second gun. It's a crazy world out there.

No the fastest "reload" is a bigger mag! Get a different weapon if yours doesn't have the capacity you feel you need.... A G17 with a +2 plate and one in the pipe will give 21 rounds..... THATS 3 1/2 SIX SHOOTERS!

I understand LEOs having a BUG....
  1. They insert themselves into trouble
  2. Their primary weapon is a vulnerable target as it is OC. I've seen LEOs disarmed from behind!

Obviously, you've not been to WallyWorld at Phillips and Emerson. :D

I don't carry extra mags/guns for the added ammo they provide. I carry them because : censored happens and guns fail....even Glocks, Capn. Having 40 rounds on board means diddly if the gun doesn't go bang.

The OP asked about "Overkill". My point (which I obviously did not make clear) was that for the "ORDINARY" person ONE gun should be enough. It is one MORE than 90% of the population carries on them every day. I feel that if I can't protect myself with 10, 12, or 20 rounds depending on my WOTD..... I WENT WHERE I SHOULDN'T HAVE! No sense in pissin up each other's leg about what is enough, because it is a subjective argument.:drinks

YES, feces can hit the ventilating machine at any time, as can space junk fall from the sky. Life is about statistics, I am not familiar with the intersection you cite, but I'll bet THOUSANDS of people travel through it every day without being killed, robbed, whatever... just as darn few people are ever killed by space junk falling on their head.

Yes even my beloved Glocks will misfire..... although statistically VERY RARELY. That said, I guarantee I can cycle it and clear the jam faster than you can get to your BUG.:deadhorse

my point exactly

Uechi....
Sounds like your brother in law doesn't have a clue.

And also my thought being that i do carry a extra mag 13 more rounds, but like it was said before, if somehow the glock gets away from me or jams. I have a big long distance shooter as per my ruger gp100 357 and it goes BOOM:drinks

It has been my experience that the only opinions that matter are 1) Yours. 2) The officer that is investigating a shooting. 3) The State Attorney. 4) The judge. 5) The jury.

I tend to carry an EDC with at least one spare magazine. One BUG. Two edged weapons. Then whetever NLR I select. I can justify this very easily, and have a laundry list of experts, including Mas, ready to back me up.

I don't see much issue with your selection. One of my BUGs is a .357 mag. I prefer wheel guns as BUGs as well.

Now, some MIGHT consider this to be " overkill " as a Concealed BUG ...

But, as I say ... to each their own. :D

You can never be too rich, too good looking or have too many firearms.

Personal carry is just that, personal. You make a decision based upon what feels right for you. Some people drive P-U trucks, some motorscooters and some Ferraris. Now a Ferrari may seem like over kill, but if you want to drive one, more power to you. Sometimes I carry a BUG, sometimes I don't. I always have a spare magazine, however.

RCR makes a good point. Firearms, though usually reliable, are machines and machines fail. If that happens in a gunfight, you are probably history; unless you have a BUG.

So, being adults, we each get to choose what we want to carry, or if we want to carry at all.

Glock 4488 I would worry less about what your brother in law thinks about your carry and more about why he is watching you get dressed.

You can take recommendations from those who take personal safety serious and study it like some on here or you can take it from your brother in law. Personally I seldom even have an extra mag on me down in this climate. Guns fail but if I thought my HK was going to fail I would stop carrying it. I know two guys who regularly carry 3 guns and wouldn't judge them. If injured on your primary side your back up may become primary. From the ground your ankle may be quicker than your 4 O'clock. It is all personal and up to what you have been training with.
