Ok guys. I have had 9mm's for a looong time. My dad has suggested that I upgrade to a 45 semiauto. I am seriously considering this and plan to go "looking/buying" on Thursday Would like your opinions. Should I just stick with my 9mm's or move up to the 45. IF I get the 45 it will most likely be a smaller framed model such as the Taurus milpro.

I concur. If you are more comfortable with the 9, stick with it. If you can become as proficient with a .45, it maybe time for a change.

Have you considered 10mm?

Honestly, no. I have never even laid eyes on one. Isnt it close to a 357?
I believe it is closer to a .41 Mag, but I will defer to those in the know. You may want to try it out since you are making a move anyhow.

There is TONS of info, studies and statistics listed here (FCC) on both calibers.
I have an Springfield XD45 (.45) that holds fourteen. I also have a Kel Tec PF9 (9 mm). I love the XD but you can't beat a gun you can put in your pocket. I feel safe with the 9 mm (what ever that means?), I just wish it held fourteen instead of eight.
What I have gathered (I'm no pro to say the least) is that shot placement is very important with handguns.
DED says "it will do its part if we do ours" or something like that?
Good luck! Don't think you can go wrong.

Honestly, you should own the firearm that you can consistently hit center mass with, regardless of whether it is 9MM or 45 ACP.

They will both do the job.

However......

The first gun I ever shot was my dad's Colt 1911, and I have to tell you I have been hard pressed to find a better gun than the 1911, although the Hi-Power comes close...

If you do decide to go 45, take a good look at Kimber before you buy anything. You may just fall in love...

Just remember, a smaller framed .45 packs a punch but may also have a kick!

I like 45s but would rather have a full sized one than a compact. Even a 9 in a very compact frame can be uncomfortable for some and effect your accuracy. For some, that is not a problem and they shoot them very well and even enjoy the punch of it. Me, I am made of softer stuff!:D

The 9 is Fine and I'll just keep mine!:drinks

Soft stuff, that's funny. Your little PF9will remind you that you just pulled the trigger and you and your soft hands actually chose and bought that snappy gun little gun.:rolf

Wow! I just checked the poll and it is at 50/50. Thanks for all of the responses! If I do get a .45, the 9mm's arent going anywhere. I will surely check out the Kimber. Choices, choices...:banghead
