New Glock 23 broken-in last week

So I finally broke down and got myself a brand new G23, to replace my venerable Taurus 85 revolver as my main carry weapon... it feels really sweet!

Compared to my Taurus loaded with +Ps, the recoil didn't hurt at all even after putting 200 downrange... so my question is... how long can I procrastinate cleaning it? Or can I go to the range again this week without even cleaning it? BTW, I only use quality factory ammo, no reloads, etc...

Anyways, I love it!!!!

This is going to go against all the other advise you'll get. Don't clean it. Wait till the factory grease wears off then clean it. That's what I was advised to do by the gun store when I got my G19. I have made many range trips without a hickup. It's a Glock and it's rugged. Field strip it and look at the slide. You will see the factory grease on a few parts of the slide. It takes a while for it to wear off.
I agree with Nkm about the factory grease :thumsup

and Fantomas about the sweetness of the 23. it is all that is sweet.

i appreciate it every time it takes a seat in the palm of my hand. :D
I have heard of people shooting thousands of rounds in their Glock, and H&K's before cleaning. I personally clean my firearms after every trip to the range. But thats me. I like keeping them in good shape!

If this gun is being carried for SD on the streets, always have a cleaned and lubed firearm.

If the gun is not being carried for SD on the street before you are going back to the range, you should be able to shoot somewhere over 6000 rds through it before you need to clean it [ it's a glock :thumsup ].

I regularly run 6K or more through my training g17 before ever taking the slide off it. I believe the gun could run upwards of 15K before it needed to be cleaned, but I haven't waited that long to find it's true puke point as it may take 30K before it got dirty enough to slow or stop functioning.

Great choice! I just got one the other day and have 250 rounds down the tube. I cleaned after both range trips because it's my EDC.

The Glock I carry is always clean/lubed, etc.... If I shoot a gun at the range, I'll have different clean one to carry.

My match Glock is the one I shoot at the range most. It normally gets cleaned the night before a match (after several trips to the range).

I made the mistake once of trying to shoot a Glock to failure by not cleaning it at all. It was a range-gun/teaching-tool/loaner only. Well, after about 3 years and umptyzillions of rounds, I finally couldn't look at it any more and cleaned the damn thing.

I put over 2000 round in a 17 with out cleaning just to see if it
would choke, not one single issue!
All in one day, 20 recruits. all new shooters to boot.

When does one consider a pistol to be broken in? The first time you use it or after a certain amount of rounds?

That depends on the make and model of the gun.

In the glock 17's case, it would be broken in after 50K rounds and good for another 500,000K rds before it's service life was close to ending .:rolf

I've got a G17 first gen from 1988 with over 96K through it. That gun is broken in. I've got other glock 17's [ third gens ] that have anywhere from 500-5000K rounds through them, and I don't believe they are broken in yet.

Brownie is a OCD Glockoholic...you'll have to excuse him:rolf

1000 rounds with any other pistol, with no FTE's FTF's and I'd consider it broke in and good enough to carry..:dancingbanana
