I talked to a buddy today and he has turned me onto a gun for sale. Owner wants $325 for it. It is a Star Firestar 40 with 2 mags, stainless. Thinking about taking a look at it and maybe having to break open the piggy bank. Would this be advised or not. Don't know much about this make so any feed back would help. Thanks.

Had the 45 a few years back..got rid of it for whatever reason..but it was a good pistol, a little on the heavy side but concealable and accurate. Made in Spain and discontinued I believe so parts and magazines might be hard to come by. All in all I enjoyed it and wish I hadnt sold it..never had any problems with it.

of course this isn't the exact one, but is the same gun.

Thank you for the link to the other site.
Thanks for the feedback SwampRat about previous owning one. I've seem to be hearing the same all around "had one, wish I never got rid of it". Coming from you, I'll take that as a good review.

My only concern was reliability and dependability and that it would make a good carry gun.

I don't know what their reputation is now, but I had a Star 9mm back in the early '80s. Basically a knock off of the S&W Model 39. Mags were interchangeable, as were the grips. Not sure of the other parts though. Pretty reliable weapon for the money. Some knock offs, like Taurus, can at times actually surpass the original in fit and function. But like GlockComa says, if you can get the Sigma for anywhere near the same price, why chance it? Just my .02 worth. Otherwise, my advise is to take it to someone knowledgeable that you trust for a thorough evaluation before plunking down hard earned bucks. Good luck my friend.

why chance it.. you can get a brand new SW sigma 9mm for around the same price...
Or a Sigma 40 for about $350. if it's a 40 you want. I have a Sigma 9mm and it's a great carry pistol. The trigger pull is long and hard like a wheel gun and it would be next to impossible to have an Plaxico discharge with it. If the SHTF we'll never notice a long hard trigger. :pistols
