I doubt very seriously that event happened the way the gun owner described it. I call BS on the notion that the gun discharged from striking the floor...he probably tried to catch it, causing it to discharge.

I agree,possible, but highly unlikely. The idea should however be to not have your firearm bouncing on the floor. It needs to be secure. Like any other mechanical device parts can fail so why tempt fate by using your gun for acceleration/deceleration or impact tests.
