My best friend came for a visit over Easter weekend from Georgia and he brought me a brand new Kahr CW9 he got for me. I was really surprised and very grateful. I have been wanting that gun for a while but not able to afford it. He brought me a box of Winchester Supreme Elite 147 grain. We put 14 rounds through it Easter Sunday and it was sweet. But when we tried to get more ammo we found that no one has any ammo in stock. I saved the rest of the box so as to have something in the gun in case I need to use it. But I spent all of today visiting all the WalMarts in the area and they are completely out of ammo. I went to a couple of the gun shops and they are out also. I went on line and can not find any on line ammo shop with new 9mm Luger in stock. I even went to the Hornady site and they have a note on their webpage that says they are not selling directly to customers for now because of high demand. They are only selling to wholesalers and distributors. Its frustrating to have a new gun and not be able to use it. The manual says I have to put 200 rounds through it to brake it in so it is reliable. Well, I got 14 rounds throught it so far. I hope in the next year I can find enough ammo to put the other 186 rounds through it.

So for now I have a very nice paper weight on my desk holding down my stack of bills. What is going on with ammo? why is every one going crazy buying up all the ammo? I know some folks are paranoid about the new administration but it is ridiculous how they are going crazy buying up all the ammo. If ammo is outlawed what makes them think what they have at home is going to be grandfathered in?

Now that's a friend indeed!

You're surprised by the ammo shortage? Check out the ammo forum and you'll see that it's been a problem for awhile now. Many gun shops and ranges can still supply you with 9 mm if you're willing to pay the price. Also, check the Wal-marts first thing in the morning, if you can. Like before 7:30 if the store opens at 7:00.

So they have it when they need it as it's become obvious it's getting harder to get when you want to buy it? :thumsup

What makes anyone think it's going to be outlawed to begin with? :rolf

What makes anything think everyone keeps their ammo at home and not cached in various locations? :D

Forethought over the years has allowed some to stack it very deep, then stack it even deeper, knowing the guns are paperweights without it. If you haven't thought to stack it in enough quantity throughout the years to allow you to have at least a years supply on hand, you are going to be at the mercy of the supply chain if and when it dries up for some reason like it is now.

The thing about it that chaps my buttocks, is that I can't get any range time. I have enough stockpiled/cached to take care of my needs if SHTF, but there is none available for practice..... that sux!

The local WW sporting goods mgr, loves to sit at the local watering hole after work and down a pitcher or two.... Every time I see him, I send a pitcher over to him.... Soon I'll send a pitcher with my phone number and a note to CALL when he gets some 9mm in!

Uhhh, does he know why you send a pitcher his way? Just saying because if I did not know you from adam and you try to buy me a pitcher of beer, I think It might creep me out. Especially if you walk around w/o your shirt on like your previous avatar showed.

Wait........ maybe the manager likes that.. sorry for jumping to conclusions :rolf

I went to Walmart this morning and they were cleaned out again. The man behind the ammo counter was really nice. He said his Dad is a gun dealer in South Florida. He told me the gun shops/ranges are sending people around 7 am each day to check if a new shipment came in and buy them out. He said last Friday they got 60 boxes of 9mm and a gun dealer came in and bought all 60 boxes before they even got a chance to put them on the shelf. He said they are tacking on another 15 or 20 bucks and selling them to their customers.

you're not looking hard enough, theres ammo to be found, you just need to learn to stop checking the same places everyone else uses...

if your local range sells it, check there, buy online, i garuntee its not as hard as you think to find

This is why I like the policy that some Walmarts have of limiting the purchase during this time of shortage.

Ummm, does he need any more friends? As for the ammo, it's a PITA to find. I hit up my local WM for the last 4 days and they dont have anything but some 357 and .40. I have about 600 rounds at home, but plan to use half that at the range this weekend.
Henry could have been alot worse,he could have given you a 380 :laughing you will find 9mm alot sooner then you will 380.
This is the real reason I've been at Walmart. Scored a P3AT on Monday and can't shoot it. I want to put something down the pipe to check reliability before I carry it. I can't find target ammo or SD, anywhere.

Found ammo in Dothan, AL on my way to Fort Rucker. I bought 10 boxes of Remington FMJ to brake the gun in and six boxes of Federal Hydra Shock. Now I am cooking. I posted the information for the place I bought it at on the Walmart sticky in the Ammo forum. There was a lot more left and prices were cheaper than Walmart. $16.95 for the 50 round boxes of FMJ and $21.95 for the Hydra Shock 20 round box. Still didn't find 380 though. If I find 380 I will buy it and maybe trade with someone for the 9mm.

Ok, can you point me to some reasonably priced 9mm hardball ammo then?

That is just lame. And why would they buy the ammo from Walmart anyway? Is is cheaper than dealer cost? I have a hard time believing that.

2 reasons:

(1) dealers are having a hard time keeping up with demand, so they take it wherever they can get it even if they have to pay a little extra (let's face it, they are not losing money with the huge markup they charge anyway)

(2) if they buy out all of the lower priced ammo in town, then people will have no choice but to pay their overinflated price.
