An update on recent conversations with DOA.

Last Wed: Called and was told all supervisors busy, one will call back. Took reps name.

Fri: Called back and mentioned I still hadn't heard back and mentioned reps name, and was told nobody by that name worked there. Maybe I wrote it wrong. Got the name of the person I sopke to and made sure I asked twice.

Monday: Called and got the same rep again and mentioned I still hadn't had my call returned and was put on hold twice trying to transfer. Again, was told a supervisor would return my call. This time, though, after looking up my info, I was told my app was "pending" which is a word I hadn't heard before. It had always been "they haven't even looked at it but you're in the system". Not sure if this is a positive sign or not.

I decided to take it a step further and called Bronson's office and was very polite and explained I understood the burden the dept is under and simply am requesting a return call as promised and mentioned I had friends who applied after me and have permit in hand and were assisted by supervisors. Very nice lady who explained for the umpteeth time that the dept is under a heavy backlog. I replied I know and appreciate the work they do.

Bronson's secretary said this is normal and not all apps are processed in the order recieved, which made me a little upset.

What further upset me was when she asked the name of who i spoke to at the DOA and the number I called. When I provided this info, she said there is nobody by that name at DOA!!!!! I explained that this was the second time I had heard that and she said I might be reaching a call center, which really appeared to be a brush off.

She promised to contact the office and have someone return my call......:aarg

As fate would have it, took my dog to the park after and saw a guy with a "Shoot Straight" hat and mentioned I am a customer there and talked briefly about yesterday's sad shooting.

Turns out he works the gun shows and does the paperwork for the CCW classes they offer.

He made it worse by saying he is seeing Novemeber apps still not finished, which I haven't heard of, but maybe those people aren't on forums like this for all I know.

There definitely seems to be some great inconsistencies in how they deal with callers.

I'm not sure I would worry about the "no such person" response as they may be reluctant to give out their names and just make up a name. That way nothing can be traced back to them.

The only time I asked for a name was from the supervisor that issued my license. She gave it to me then we talked for another 2 or 3 minutes.

The one thing I did differently that other is that I just asked for a supervisor when the call was first answered.
I guess my call to Charles Bronson might have worked and I hope it doesn't open up a flood of calls of a similar nature, at least until I get mine.

I recieved a call from an extremely nice and helpful Bureau Chief, NOT supervisor, who said the only issue they have is my class certificate is hard to read as far as what type of instructor gave the class. She asked me to look at my certificate and she should be able to finish it up.

At that point my heart began racing and I was so nervous, I couln't open my safe with the dial I have turned 1000 times.

She chuckled and said she looked up the gun range's web address and is personally calling them herself and appologized 3 times for my delay.

Fort he first time, I am seeing an end to the ordeal.
Congrats! Sure seems like the squeaky wheels get the grease at DOACS. I wonder how many people got issued on calling and how many never called and got issued?

I wonder the same thing.

I learned a little bit about the process when she said it was good news that my app hade made it from the processing point to the pending stage.

From what I can tell, there is a large amount of apps in a processing center and once they are ready, the next stage is close to the last stage awaiting final approval with the final part coming when a supervisor gets around to final approval.

I am also guessing that the most persistant applicants get the most attention and often move to the head of the line, which isn't really fair and I have mixed feelings about what happened to me today as I am not normally a big complainer, and don't deserve special treatment over those before me.

Also noteworthy; she mentioned that the backlog isn't as bad as it was previously, which is good news for recent applicants as well as those still waiting.

Congrats Floydpink !

You uncovered the same issue that I have been frustrated with during my process. Your persistence paid off :thumsup
Congrats on getting some movement on your license. Hopefully it won't be long now.
An open question to all - Have any of you out sent in a renewal application and if so how long have they been taking to go through?

Thanks, I'm not sure if I saved any time as it seems like they were close to getting to it anyway, but who knows.

I have the number the Bureau Chief called from and it's different form the
850-245-5691 one that I normally called. The other one gets answered fast so I am thinking that if I don't hear anything in a week, I will call back to check and ask for the person I spoke to today directly.

Our conversation ended with me asking her if she will call me back and she said she would, as well as hopefully get my license issued.

I'm wondering if I should just follow up tommorow so I'm not forgotten. What do you guys think?
I was told by a DOA exec. assistant that all renewals have priority ahead of new applications. That way they ensure no ones CWP lapses.

I think that I would hold off and not bug them for a while. Too much contact might become an irritant and could even slow things down for you.

We are following that same question here http://floridaconcealedcarry.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=2405
