I am studying 16 hours a day for a test to get a license to get a job at this time.Every few hours I will take a break and walk outside.

Yesterday I opened my front door and saw a man in the parking lot who waived and smiled at me. I did not recognize him but assumed he was visiting the apartment nearest the lake. He started walking away when he confirmed the people he wanted to see were gone. When passing the stairs for my unit he trotted up them and in less than three seconds I had a man a few feet from me with my front door open and was not armed. I sensed his anger and quiet desperation and really wanted to be armed at that moment.
I played it cool and he began his story about getting ripped off and was homeless and was looking to collect his money from a neighbor who did hire day laborers. He expecting me to front the money owed to him ($40) so he did not have to come back as someone had stolen his bike. I shrugged and kept calm and said I was unemployed as well and needing money. I let him vent for a few minutes until he decided to leave.

It is very isolated where I live and had he wanted to do something I would have been in trouble. It was a wake up call to me to be carrying before I open my front door.

H2H is nice, but I imagine foot-to-groin works just as well.
I NEVER take my feet off the ground in sd scenarios. One can easily put on their arse when they are unbalanced. I want both feet under me, where I have the ability to move in any direction.

Lessons learned in training, the hard way as it were

I like the looks of that fire extinguisher hanging there handy.
That stuck out at me, as well! (y) One thing brownie always reminded us of at his Edged Weapon/H2H classes was that the our hands are always with us and improvised weapons work quite well, such as fire extinguishers, hot cups of coffee, fuel pump nozzles, etc. Virtually anything can be turned into a weapon with a little imagination! 🤠

My thoughts exactly:
Like that fold-up tray table on commercial airlines.

No sharp objects allowed past the X-Ray machine, but an enterprising (i.e., determined) individual could do all manner of mayhem with that damn tray table! :)

This is why my North American Arms 22LR is """"ALWAYS""" in my pocket weather out and about or in my home.
I'm sure that every single person you see every day is a "NOT" criminal thug and going to attack you but it only takes one to be the one that tries to hurt you.

These days with people out of work, Having no food and no $$$$$$$, Even the once honest nice citizen can be a danger.

Here's an idea...push the SOB down the stairs.
Always remember, some people are just like slinkies…not really good for much but they sure do bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs. 🤣

Hence the need for H2h skills, something far too many gun carriers have no skills in.

I don't always carry a gun, but my hands are always with me.
And I always have at least one knife on me. Most of the time two and occasionally three.

read my mind...take the throat and a knee for good measure and heave to...

The man did not do anything, thankfully. another way I could put it is 'I live in a secluded building where few people visit. I took a break for some fresh air and opened my front door without a EDC as I rarely even see anyone. A man was next to me in less than three seconds looking for money. I was surprised it happened that fast.'

I see hints of a guncentric mentality in this thread
Except for the fire extinguisher, trip down the stairs, and similar replies! ;)
