So I called DOA last week and the nice lady said I on the supers desk and should be issued next week. Skip to today I called and was on hold for about 20 min (not to bad). Talked to a nice lady again who said I was waiting for the super to approve. So I asked to speak to a super. I was transfered to a operator who put me on hold for a super. I heard someone pick up the phone and hang up (not sure what happened). Called back and got a not so nice person this time. Who said I was 8 to 10 weeks away for my permit being issued. Asked for a super again she put me on hold then said she would have a super call me back. Then she said she had my permit # and name but needed my phone #.

Two questions.

#1 Do they give you a permit number before they issue the permit.

#2 Will anyone call me back.

Sorry but I don't know the answers but my guess would be -
1. I don't think so
2. I doubt it.

I've had mixed responses from the person answering the phone including one who gave me incorrect information.

I've talked with a supervisor twice and both were very helpful and professional in how they handled the call.

The first time I called (after ninty days had elapsed) the person who answered was terse and defensive, even though I was extremely polite to her. I asked for and got transferred to an operator only after being told how many years experience she had and that a supervisor couldn't give me any better info than she could.

After a very short wait I was transferred to a totally professional, polite and pleasant lady who told me, "I will take care of it." She did and my license is issued and , presumably on it's way.

I would give the supervisors name but that would not be fair to her, IMHO. I will, however, write a letter to the Director to express my appreciation for her service and commend him on having that good of an employee under him. The first person I spoke with I'll chalk up to unavoidable civil service and bureaucratic waste.

I called myself yesterday, and was told that I still had 4-6 weeks to wait, which is nuts because I sent mine in late December. The person I spoke to sounded pretty annoyed, but I didn't ask to speak to a sup (More on that in a minute). I merely thanked her and hung up.

My co-worker then chimed in, asking if I was talking to DOA, and I said yes. He said, "You know, after I got out of the Marines, that was the first place I worked. My (Relative's name) is a supervisor there and helped to put in the good word for me. If they give you more flak, let me know and I'll pass the info to her."

So I smacked 'em for withholding that information (LOL, as if!), and today they gave me the same run-around, so I gave him my info and hopefully it'll get run down soon. :)

EDIT: Forgot to mention that if she gets me squared away, there is going to be a serious thank you gift going up to the capital when my co-worker goes up there in May. ;)
