Time for everyone to get serious. My "other" life obligations leave me limited time to train. I am not Brownie; my world is not 80% focused on SD. I try to center my training on what I believe will be the situation that I might encounter. I try and use solid common sense, i.e not be in a Denny's after 10PM, don't go to an AMPM mini mart after 10PM; make sure that I carry always, anywhere that it is legal. I believe that if I should have an encounter it will be very close, very quick and require me to create distance in order to pull my gun. As such, I now carry a knife which I am finding is very, very quick to pull with a Brownie pop. I practice only one handed (95% of my time), from point blank to maybe 25ft. Am I missing something here? Just practicing moving off a line of sight (muzzle position) and drawing from the hip and shooting two targets quickly takes up most of my training time. I can not help but keep going back to the article on the marine who was at Subway in Ft. Lauderdale:
1. one handed
2. point shooting
3. close - very close
4. shot until he realized in anguish he was out of ammo (7 rounds I believe). What are you preparing for? I only practice threat focused point shooting methods.

You're right, you're better looking than I am :rolf

Keep up that form of practice, you'll be better to go than a lot of people :thumsup

I am not sure if this is something that is considered a good training method but I think its good. That is air-soft.

I have been seting up targets in my house and practicing on them. I put the target about chest height. This way I can get use to what it is like to clear a room in MY house and to move around MY house while looking for a target.

Maybe someone who teaches these kind of courses can tell me if air-soft is decent training method or is just a fun game?

I see nothing wrong with your current training regimen. It is more than most people have either the time or the facilities to do. :thumsup

But, let me answer your question "What are you preparing for?". The answer should be, "whatever comes along". At the moment, your training is designed for a face-to-face high threat encounter. That is good. But, what about an assault from the rear? Or if you are approached while sitting in your car or at a restaurant table? What if you are knocked to the ground? These are all viable defense scenarios. But, you are developing muscle memory and combat reflexes for a single type of attack. Expand your horizons. Don't be caught flat-footed by having to respond to an attack for which you are unprepared.

For seated training in draw and present, airsoft weaponry is a good choice. You can safely shoot targets with it in your house or car, which adds to the enjoyment of training, and you do not run the risk of ventilating anything that you value. Training should be fun, after all. And, you do not have to train everyday. Once you have mastered a skill, infrequent practice is usually all that is necessary to keep the skills handy. Situational awareness should be practiced whenever you leave the house.

People determine how much and what type of training they perform based upon what they perceive their needs to be. You can't train for everything. So, do what you think you need to and have fun.

I suggest the Center Access Relock [ CAR ] shooting positions for seated in a vehicle Mac. I've not found anything better at that than the CAR high positions and that system can be used for either side of the vehicle.

Are you familiar with the CAR shooting system at all?

Yes I am. CAR high is very effective for seated deployment in a vehicle. I also like it for a number of other situations. :thumsup

"Training" is only part of the equation.
Mindset is paramount; if you have not done so, read Principles of Self Defense by Jeff Cooper.
I have practiced my draw several thousand of times; 3-5 times every evening when I undress over more than 10 years.
With my wife, we play the "what if" game; ask the other one at unexpected time "what would you do if".
Maybe I shouldn't have written this last sentence, it is an open door for easy ribbin'.

Air-soft is a great alternative. it helps to build muscle memory and makes whatever you practice become automatic.

It works best if you are using an air-soft that is close in size and weight to your EDC.
