This is from Phoenix and kind of baffles you , yet the outcome was good. Lots to be said for drawing AND firing rather than hesitation.

1 robber killed, 1 wounded in home invasion
By Gary Grado
Tribune
One armed robber is dead and another in the hospital after a resident opened fire with a shotgun during a home-invasion robbery late Wednesday in Mesa.
According to Sgt. Ed Wessing, Mesa police spokesman, the two armed men entered the home and demanded money in the 1400 block of south Allen, near Stapley Drive and Southern Avenue, about 11:30 p.m.
The robbers, both 19, rounded up three men and a woman who lived there into one room. The victims ranged in age from 20 to 24.
Wessing said one of the residents had a pistol and aimed it at the robbers, but he didn’t have the nerve to fire.
One of the robbers took the pistol away, but the same resident then grabbed a shotgun and shot each man, killing one.
The second robber fled, and police caught up with him at Banner Desert Medical Center, 1400 S. Dobson Road.
Wessing said police don’t know how the robber got to the hospital.
There is no indication the assailants knew the residents, Wessing said.
“The four victims are true victims,” he said.
