Im Glad to find a forum thats local that I can learn from and gain great knowledge, I wont lie im a Noob to the gun world infact I dont even own one at the moment but if any of you Gun Gurus could give pointers would greatly be appreciated.


Im thinking of taking some classes any good places around here?

I can't help you with the classes in the Tampa area. Maybe some of our folks over that way will see your post and help you out.

If you will get yourself over to our training and tactics page you will find a wealth of info for newbies. We all had to start somewhere so just jump right in and make yourself at home.

if you're new to guns I highly recommend taking a gun safety course at the very least and working with you're local gun shop like "Shooting Sports" on Dale Mabry just north of Hillsbrough Ave.

Go in an talk to the folks that work their especially Fritz. my only point of departure with Fritz is that he, like so many is a glock fan, but I'm a died hard 1911 man.

You can take the CCW class there as well, but you will have to wait for a class to open up. For someone who is new to guns I really don't recommend going down the shortcut route of going to a gunshow to get your CCW. they really don't give enough personnel attention.

Thank you all for the warm welcome, yes I was browsing threw some classes that are recommended here in Tampa. I also found a nice handgun that has caught my interest which is a Glock 19. I plan on checking it out next week at a local gun shop

Hello from Tampa!

There's many of guns out there to choose from so I wouldn't go rushing into equipping yourself just yet.

Everyone has their preference...I myself am a Springfield XD kinda guy.

Not sure about the class though, I'd imagine that any major shooting ranges here in Tampa will offer them.

I prefer to go to "shoot straight" on 301 north by Martin Luther King

it's kinda tucked away in there but if you're purposely looking for it you'll find it.

As far as concealed equipment , don’t rush and be sure to consider what type of holster would work for you .I have been able to get some great deals on full size guns because some folk fall in love with a particular gun then find they don’t like the feel IWB. My #1 carry is a old full size 0r 41/4 1911, but there are those times when I have to carry a smaller 9 like a kel-tec. if you have buddies that carry see if they would let you take there’s holsters home and where them while you around your home . I do it all the time have two out to buddies now. JMO and trying to help you keep some well earned cash.

If not, I would contact Brownie and check to see when he will be holding another class in the Florida area.
