Particularly when he doesn't even make the claim that he's doing it because it's right. He's doing it strictly for political reasons, knowing that it would be unpopular to push for the ban.

Any gun ban will be suicide for the Dems in the mid-term house elections.

That is likely on the Dems mind as well. After the elections we may well see an onslaught of anti gun legislation.

I certainly wouldn't say that we have won.

I see the media is still sticking to the outright lie that most of the guns are coming from the U.S.

They need to be taken to task for perpetrating a blatant lie.

IMO - This is all politically driven. To early to tell for sure.

I agree. He is only saying that because he knows if he tries to do it, he most definately will not get re-elected.
If he figures he doesn't reinstate it, the country will not try to IMPEACH him.
But, We all know that the POTUS is a powerless figurehead. It's that D*MN Pelosi and her minions that have the power, and i am sure she knows that her re-election is going to be fought against VERY HEAVILY.

I'll believe if he sticks to it until the day he leaves office (hopefully in Jan 2013)

You all may think I am naive for saying it, but I must say it. I have faith in my CIC until the point that I must not. Everything done in W.DC is politically motivated. The man isn't even to 100 days yet. Just because he is a Democrat doesnt mean the world will stop eating meat, women will stop shaving, and everyone will hug and sing kumbaya. If he stays moderate, he might be just what this country needs. He is supporting the military as well as he can, he seems to be supporting gun rights, I am going to have faith.

Yes, we think you're naive...how can you possibly say he supports gun rights? Because he hasn't signed any gun control bills yet? Here's a news flash...none have been submitted to him yet. I assure you, any new anti-gun legislation that manages to reach his desk will get signed into law. The only thing keeping him "moderate" is political reality; he's the most left-leaning individual ever elected to the office of President.

I'm not going to turn this into an Obama-bashing thread, but if you don't believe our current President would confiscate every gun in this country if he could, you're a fool. Just because he hasn't done so yet doesn't mean that he doesn't want to or that he won't try to restrict the rights of gun owners in the future.
