Has anyone ever asked when "in the system" starts?

Hi all,

I read a lot of posts where some of us talk to DOA folks who say the application is not "in the system" yet. Has anyone ever asked when "in the system" starts? I would think it would be a good idea for someone to call and ask a supervisor at what point an app is considered to be "in the system" because we'd all have a better idea of when to start "counting days". Even if it's an estimate it would be nice. I'm sure a supervisor can say "It's when we cash the check" or "It's when we get the FBI check back" or whatever.

I would call, but its barely been 30 days since I sent in the application. Anyone else with more time in willing to call?

Opinions differ. I say by tracking the licenses issued to the members of this board that 90 days from when the DOA receives it. In another post, a DOA supervisor said when a folder is created. I am assuming they create your folder as soon as they open the application since most applicants have received their licenses at 90 days. More folks received in under 90 days than after 90 days.

Now they hired or are hiring 61 more folks to help with the backlog of applications. If they can come up with a system, we may see shorter wait times

All that's fair enough, but I'd like a specific answer to this: a DOA supervisor said when a folder is created. I am assuming they create your folder as soon as they open the application since most applicants have received their licenses at 90 days.

According to your estimate, I should count 90 days from 2/17 when they cashed my check, right? (90 days or 90 business days?)

90 days means May 19th. 90 business days means approx June 26th allowing for Easter, Memorial Day and maybe a Jewish holiday in there.

Hi Dan, I wish I could be more specific, but what I can give you is the current average based on the members of this board. I believe Steve48 is also tracking the license issuance and may chime in. He has posted recently that it looks like DOA is still processing them at 90 days. I agree. What ever happens, It can only get better for the new folks since DOA has stepped up and are hiring some more help

So far, I am seeing applications mailed to DOA, DOA receiving them in 3-6 days, cashing the check in 3-6 weeks and issuing licenses (if they have all your information and dont need you to redo anything again) in 90 days from receiving the initial application

By State law they have to issue your license in 90 days or tell you why you were denied. You can bet that when my time is up, I am going to call and let them know that.

Any case, I am having fun on this board and learning alot. I look forward to reading and posting. The time goes by pretty quickly. :popcorn Seems like only 69 days ago I submitted my application :laughing

If you ever want to go to the range, give me a holler. I am not to far from you.

That's good news. I can definitely handle an April 20ish arrival. If it arrives the week before that I can hit the gun show in Palm beach, permit in hand, and pick up my carry gun.

I definitely will. If I don't have to work this weekend I'll probably head over to Arizona Shooting range. I'll PM if I'm going.

I'm at 46 days from when they signed for it. I'm hoping the additional staff will speed things up but I'm not going to get anxious about things until I hit 90 days.

I do know that if all 90,000+ applicants don't quite calling the DOA they will never speed things up.
If the DoACS hadn't waited until they were 95,000 applications behind before adding more staff, people wouldn't need to call. They'd drop their app in the mail, then 2 or 3 weeks later they'd get their license in the mail.

If only the stimulus money was approved months ago instead of a few days ago. We would be set....:rolf

Yup, it looks like we're seeing right around 90 days, mailbox to mailbox, for most people who post here. Allowing for mail time, the DoA seems to be hanging in there. Still, that remark by the supervisor that the clock starts when they enter you into the system sounds like a lot of BS that he made up to cover the department. If that were true, all they'd have to do to circumvent the law is to not enter applications into the system until they were able to handle them. I can't believe that would stand a court test if someone really wanted to push it.

+1 I believe they are doing the best they can with what they have. The work doesn't get done unless they do it. No Slackers there. Just anxious applicants :D We just have to wait it out and let the process happen..:popcorn
I'm sure the DOA would have hired more people sooner but their current budget didn't allow for it. Then along comes the new money and they were able to ask for help. Some offices stick to their budget while others go over. I haven't seen anything to say when they were hiring them. Sometimes that takes a few weeks but if they are just regular data entry temps, should be able to find plenty of them looking for work these days.

Got to give them a hand though that they have been able to keep the process within the 90 days with what they had. I can only hope that when my app gets submitted, going next weekend to the gun show for the class, that they have the data entry folks in place and things start flowing a lot faster.

One thing to remember as well, at least our state has given us the right to carry. :drinks

Good point - The fact that they realize the need to hire more people and getting the process under way is good enough for me. Tax dollars at work for legitimate funding is always a good thing. :thumsup
Especially since the licensing fees cover the administrative cost. Or so I strongly suspect.
Hey guys, 76 days here. Congrats to everyone whos recieved theirs in the past week! :popcorn
