Personally, I don't like .40S&W. The recoil is too snappy or "flippy" to me, and I find it takes me longer to regain a sight picture than I would with 9mm or .45ACP.

I shoot 9mm, but if I were able to afford moving up in caliber, I'd skip .40S&W entirely and go to .45ACP.

Hmmm, I guess it has to do with the pistol you fire that 40 S&W round through. I have a compact Witness in 40 S&W and I think it is such a sweet shooting thing that I want to kiss the pistol each time I shoot it. (yeah, I know that sounds a bit kinky but, hey, I like that sweet little almost unnoticeable recoil) The recoil is so much more pleasant than the J frame in 38 special that I sometimes fire. Yet, I fired the same 40 S&W round through a friends tiny little Keltec which you could hide in the palm of your hand and had to check the palm of my hand three times to make sure the skin was still on my palm. I thought that little Keltec had ripped the palm of my hand completely off. My Blackhawk in 41 magnum is much more pleasant to shoot than that Keltec.

I'm of the same mindset as Cthulhu on the 40S+W,

Followup shots will be faster with the 9mm if the same platform is used to test the 9mm and 40S+W calibers. The 45acp is a low pressure cartridge that more a gentle push in the web of the hand.

I don't own a 40 in anything for that reason. I carry a 9mm 90% of the time and when I go to another auto caliber it's the 45acp. Though the 40 isn't too much recoil to handle in some guns, it will be more difficult to get the same amount of rounds on threat per second compared to the 9mm or 45acp.

To answer the OP's question, I would suggest you stay away from the HK's in any platform as the company will not support their products with civilians. Break a part, you'll wait for several months to get it from them. If you are LE or Mil, you'll have that same part in two days.

There are a few models of HK I'd like to buy, but with their reputation for servicing civilians guns when they have a problem, I'll not support that company.

Springfield Armory, CS called--- they send you an electronic prepaid packing slip, you send it in, it's back in less than two weeks.

If you need a part, they send it out next day, usually free of charge if it's something like a recoil spring plug, recoil spring, extractor, etc

Sig, CS called-- they send you an electronic prepaid packing slip, you send it in, it's back in 2-4 weeks.

If you need a part, hey send it out next day.

Colt, CS called-- they'll send you a packing slip or have you ship the gun back and have the problem fixed in less than 3 weeks and back to you.

If you need a part, they'll have you send the gun or send the part for a nominal fee.

Rock Island Armory, CS called--send them the gun and it's back in less than two weeks.

If you need a part like an extractor or recoil spring guide, sent to you the next day, usually no charge.

HK, CS called--military or leo letterhead? they'll have you send it to them and you'll have the gun back in less than a week. If you need a recoil spring guide or captured recoil spring? Right out to you. Civilian? no parts availability.

Need a simple part like a captured recoil spring guide?, wait up to 6 months or longer.

Big difference in CS for civilians between HK and every other manufacturer in business.

I've had students wait for a captured recoil spring guide for over 6 months, but that part is available to a cop or military person the next day.

As I'm no longer a cop and can't use a letterhead from some dept, I won't support HK by buying their products. They aren't just slow to service their civilian customers, they are slower than crap, and it's totally unnecessary and reflects their attitude toward their civilian customers.

Anyone carry the h&k p2000 sk in .40 cal
Was thinking this vs springfield xd subcompact .40.

What do you guys think of the .40 as a round?

Thanks! As always.
Great pistol!!!! I would recommend it, I shoot my friends every once in a while. If I had the extra cash, or if someone wanted to trade for a USP. I would jump on it, in a heartbeat.

9mm would work also....
