Howdy all! I'm not new to this forum, I've been lurking for a few months now, but I just received my FL CCW license in the mail. I appreciate all the good information that is available on this forum.

I am in the Navy and currently stationed in Patuxent River, MD. My home of record is Florida and I own a house in Jax, plus I have family spread out all over Florida, so I visit Florida frequently. Of course I live in a state that doesn't permit CCW unless you're a LEO or retired LEO, but most states in the area have a reciprocity agreement with FL. Unfortunately, some states only recognize a CCW permit from a FL resident. My question is: since I am in the military and my actual home of record is FL, am I or am I not considered a FL resident since I currently reside in MD? Like I stated, I do own property in FL, plus I claim FL as my residence for income tax purposes and I am registered to vote in Florida.

I have researched some of the state's statutes that require a FL CCW permit holder to be a resident and I do not see anything that clarifies exactly what "resident" is defined by.

Of course, I will most likely just take the "it’s better to be safe than sorry" approach and not carry in the states that require FL residence.

Greetings. Did you happen to make it to the openning of the Tiki Bar on Solomons Island this spring?

Welcome aboard, shipmate. Sorry you're incarcerated at Pax!

Unless things have changed since my time (10 years VP bubba), MILPERS on orders are considered a resident of the state of their home of record, UNLESS you have taken steps to become a resident of the state in which you are PCSd. Do you maintain your FL DL? Does your CWFL have a FL address on it (or no address since you've only had it a few months)?

LOL...no I try to stay away from that place during "peak" times.

Yup, I still use my FL DL...with a MD address on it. My CWFL doesn't have any address on it.

Welcome from Bradenton!

As to the question of whether an active duty military is considered a resident of their home state or the state they are stationed in, for the purposes of CC reciprocity, I would think that it would be something covered by state law of the state in question, and so may be different from state to state.
