Howdy all! I'm not new to this forum, I've been lurking for a few months now, but I just received my FL CCW license in the mail. I appreciate all the good information that is available on this forum.
I am in the Navy and currently stationed in Patuxent River, MD. My home of record is Florida and I own a house in Jax, plus I have family spread out all over Florida, so I visit Florida frequently. Of course I live in a state that doesn't permit CCW unless you're a LEO or retired LEO, but most states in the area have a reciprocity agreement with FL. Unfortunately, some states only recognize a CCW permit from a FL resident. My question is: since I am in the military and my actual home of record is FL, am I or am I not considered a FL resident since I currently reside in MD? Like I stated, I do own property in FL, plus I claim FL as my residence for income tax purposes and I am registered to vote in Florida.
I have researched some of the state's statutes that require a FL CCW permit holder to be a resident and I do not see anything that clarifies exactly what "resident" is defined by.
Of course, I will most likely just take the "it’s better to be safe than sorry" approach and not carry in the states that require FL residence.
