OD, those 1911's are truly in a class unto themselves, but I have never fired one. I have a feeling if and when I do, it will be hard to resist not having at least one.

I was reluctant to step into the "locked and cocked" carry condition of a single action, but I realize it is perfectly safe and just something that you must get used to.

Twist my arm, go ahead! :D
:laughingOh yes firing a 1911 is an awsome feeling gets the adrenelin pumping. :D
I just replaced my Colt Officers .45 with a Glock 19. While I had many great shooting times with my customized .45, I could not be happier with my 19. Less weight, great capacity, decent firepower. Almost the same size.
Honestly, I've never owned a 1911. I did have a Browning Hi-Power which I loved, and a Ruger Gov't Target which I also love. Both emulate the size, grip angle and weight of a 1911.

That said, back when I worked on the water (hence the Capngeo) the Glocks were the only thing that stood up to the salt air everyday without a lot of maintenance or special handling. I carry Glocks today for the same reason I drive a truck instead of a sports car.
I carried a brace of 1911's many times while working assignments [ one strong side and one crossdraw ]. Carried a 1911 most of the time over the 28 years on the streets back east. Most knew I was a 1911 guy back then.

Been carrying a glock 17 primarily for the last 4 years. Took a couple of extended trips to the desert and a few thousand rounds to get into the swing of this breed, but it's been the constant companion since then.

I've gone back to the 1911 a few times for a day here or there, miss the old slabsides in some strange nostalgic way even now, but the weight of my govt models and single stack round count don't give me the warm and fuzzies like they used to so they get put back in the safe. The Colts and SA's are old friends and kept good company serving well in their intended purpose. The SA I'll never sell particularly in that role [ it's been completely rebuilt once ].

I'd take one of them into battle at a moments notice today, both the Colt and SA stand ready for duty at a moments notice, but they don't get the attention they once did.

I'll never not own a few 1911's.

For pure shooting pleasure, nothing compairs to an 1911,
sweetest trigger, natural grip angle.

But when I go to work, my Glock clocks in with me.
Glock Vs. 1911

I carry a Colt 1911, but have a Glock by my bed at night, .357 SIG.

Colt 8 rounds, with Xtra Mag of 7 rounds. Personal defence.

Glock for home, .357 SIG, with 16 rounds in the Glock, and 2 xtra Mags with 15 each.

Also 12Ga. pump in the closet, W/00.

For those who may wonder......

I live in the woods......I like LEO's...But....they respond to a crime, don't often stop it.

That new XSE Colt Commander is a real work.nice. :drinks

That's what I've done...a Glock 30 is now my backup to my Kimber Ultra-CDP... ;)
A 1911 is what you show your friends. A Glock is what you show your enemies :rolf

Ain't that the truth huh? :thumsup

Or one could say: Shoot a steel 1911 with a Glock and you'll pi$$ it off, shoot a plastic Glock with a 1911 and you'll destroy it.:laughing

Truthfully, both of them are good weapons.

Of course if you carry a Glock you will be welcome at the Tuperware parties!!:laughing

KimberCarrier is right you know about those tupperware parties at least until they upgrade their metal detectors - right now the ones they still use at tupperware get togethers aren't set off by Glocks.
I have owned and fired, A XD-40, S&W 1911, SKYY CXP-1 9mm, and Taurus PT-145. Never owned a Glock, cause I had the "BETTER" XD-40 (IMO)

I regularly shoot my S&W 1911 in USPSA competition, and my XD-40 for a while.

Currently still own the S&W 1911 I LOVE IT! but its to big to carry often concealed. But I still manage to carry it when clothing allows.
And I still own and carry the PT-145 daily.

Sold the XD-40 to a friend, needed the $$$, Sold the CXP-1 as soon as the factory fixed and replaced it, what a piece of Crap! and traded up with some cash for a mossberg 500a shotgun in 12ga.

While I know what the glock has for features, I still would prefer the XD over the glock. I will never give up my 1911! And I love the feel for the PT-145. All my carry guns are .45 acp. My home defense guns 12ga. moss/pump, and for longer distances, a high-point 9mm carbine rifle (cheap hurricane longgun with cheap ammo.)
For me, the bottom line is that in an emergency situation, I would be extremely happy to have either a Glock or 1911 at hand. I just find the Glocks are a little bit easier to hide and carry. both will do the job.:drinks
1911 hands down. I grudgingly have come to actually want a Glock 30 as a backup or quick run cc gun but my primary is and as far as I can forsee a 1911, best feeling handgun I've ever held. Maybey it is just the caliber recoil but I hated shooting my brothers glock 22 I could'nt hit anything past 5yrds or so and the backstrap feels horrible on a fullsize glock. I will admit they are a to hell and back reliable gun i'll give em that but their not comfortable to me except the sc's and sf's.
Uhhh, do I really need to answer that question or does my name say it all. I like the glock because you can abuse the : censored out of it and it still works

:drinks Just bought an XD-45 acp (1911 and a Glock had baby?), have a Mossberg 500a close at night. My dad just bought one of those Hi-Point rifles, he's dying to get to the range and see how well it shoots.
