Florida’s Permit-less Concealed Carry

The Florida Senate passed the PCC bill this PM, and it goes to the Gov’s. Office for his signature.
DeSantis has already stated that he’ll sign it, and it has a July 1, 2023 effective date.

I think the vote was @27-12; with one Rino voting against the bill.

It’s “breaking news” on Bay News 9.

No, but like a lot of recent bills, the legislature has once again tried to kill seven birds with one stone, so there is a lot of verbiage in there to sift through. Much of it has to do with LEOs, off-duty LEOs, which agencies are considered LEOs for purposes of this bill, etc. The actual "meat" that effect CC-ers is less than 1/4 of the bills words.

As advertised, all it does is allow people otherwise able to meet the legal requirements to obtain a license to carry concealed without getting said license. As many have already stated in the forums, I have one and I'm going to keep one because of the benefits having a license brings (no waiting period, reciprocity, etc.).

Ironically I was going to apply for my CCW on Tuesday, go figure that this came out. I would love to still receive the above mentioned benefits of (no waiting period, reciprocity, etc.). Do any of you know if they will still let me apply or if you can still apply for one and get one with the current state of the bill. Also if you will still be able to get one if the bill passes just for the reciprocity benefits? Thanks in advance.

Don’t think this will become law until July 1st. I would apply now and get it.

Welcome to the FCC forum from Palm Beach County, im_thinking1!

First, please see this post from another thread (that's a link) that outlines 4 solid reasons to get your Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearms License (FCWFL).

Second, since this was your very first post to FCC without first introducing yourself as described here, please now take the time to properly post you're own Introduction to FCC, letting forum members get to know you a little, particularly with regard to our inherent right to keep and bear arms. You can do that by going to the Introduce Yourself section of the Welcome to Florida Concealed Carry section and starting your very own introduction thread. Then you'll find that lots of other FCC members will know to chime in to properly welcome you to the forum, and will be more responsive in answering your questions you may have!

In case you weren't aware, you can stay current on pertinent Florida Statutes regarding the "justified use of force" and all of Florida firearms laws by going right to the source using these links for Chapter 776 - Justifiable Use of Force and Chapter 790 - Weapons and Firearms, respectively. I'd also like to suggest you obtain your own copy of FLORIDA FIREARMS Law, Use & Ownership by Jon Gutmacher!

If you're a veteran, take a look at our Military Service Thread where you'll find many of us there, too!

Finally, I highly recommend you read this thread to understand how to navigate FCC to get the most out of your experience. One particular item that's caught many veteran FCC members off guard is the "Recommended Reading" at the bottom of each page, which MAY contain quite old threads of inactive conversations lacking up-to-date information or context. So beware of the date of the last post (just to the right of the post number) in any thread you come across so you don't mistakenly think every post is recent and start responding to very old posts/threads that been dormant for quite some time, sometimes for many years.

Again, welcome to FCC!

The State will not cease to collect the fee and issue licenses to those who want them, IMO.;)

It's great news, but thread moved to Legislative InitInitiatives all the same.

I doubt the existing process and system will change at all. I would absolutely get it for the reciprocity alone. You have to travel across several states in any direction to find one that doesn't recognize it.

Threads about passage of HB543 through the Florida House and Senate and sent to the Governor's desk to be signed into law, effective 1 July 2023 have been merged to keep all relevant posts together. Earlier thread about the Introduction of HB543 Permitless Concealed Carry Bill was left separate.
I'm keeping mine in case somehow in the future they repeal the no license required. Besides, having the license makes gun purchases much simpler. Just like having a motorcycle endorsement on my driver license. Even if I quite riding for awhile I can always go back to it without all the hubub. SO I say unto thee, if you have a license then keep it up to date.
