So I've had my eye on this bad boy for a while now, and finally got the green light from my better half to go ahead. I get to pick it up saturday, cause I have yet to get my ccw.

Great purchase. What caliber? I was seriously looking at one of them when I found my 1911.

****

Just remember, making the gun smaller (Sub-compacts) generally makes them harder to handle. Lighter guns jump more on recoil, and the smaller grips are harder to get a good hold on.

Lots of guys think they will get the smaller gun for their wives and that they are doing right, often not. If she uses a purse concealment, she can conseal a larger weapon than you - better. It becomes a matter of what fits her and her hands.

You can go to the other extreeme. You tiny 90 lb. female may not want to heft a .44 mag or larger hogleg around either and may not have the developed wrist strength to shoot it skillfully.

****

Bottom line, let her try a few models and see what she is comfortable with.

I went with the 45, but I think my wifes will be the 9mm. Good advice on letting her see what fits her. I'm slowly learning that choosing a handgun is a more personal experience than I once believed. Thanks again. I also had a good friend of mine give me 50rds of Winchester 45 ACP JHP as a gift. What a great guy. :)

I have some friends that have those guns. I'm considering it in .45 for my next purchase (he says as he begs his wife to approve the purchase).

3 day wait - don't have the CCW yet huh? That's the next step and hopefully you are already well along in that process.

Very happy with my XD-45c. Unless you're used to a Glock platform, you should enjoy the XD. Let your wife choose her own handgun. It is a very personal experience.

Great pickup on the XD45!

While I agree that your wife should pick up what's comfortable for her, the XD9-SC is not the worst place to start. I have small hands (if I lived outside of FL I would wear ladies' size gloves) and the gun fits like a dream. Recoil is very manageable as well, as the gun is a bit heavier than a similar Glock 26 (4-5oz.). Have fun at the range Saturday :ak .
