Got my Concealed Weapons Permit today!! Exactly 5 weeks to the day. Sent on 08/24/09 and received 09/28/09. I sent mind paper prints and through the mail and everything. Didn't know about the appointment deal till after I sent mine already. Excited about carrying for the first time. Still haven't done it yet other than practicing walking around. I'm thinking about buying a fanny pack for work, considering I lift my arms up a lot because I'm a merchandiser for a bread company.
And here I thought I was goin to wait at least 60 days. I made a bet with another buddy at work of mine who has a concealed weapons permit as well. The bet was 10 dollars I would get it in less than 60 days. So I lost 10 bucks but its not a big deal. Win win situation. Any advice for a new carrier? (something you wish someone told you when you first started carrying)

Congratulations, RogerThat! We all know that feeling when you are holding that license in your hand for the first time.

As far as advice, I would only say that the plastic you hold in your hands carries much more responsibility than you can ever imagine.

I would encourage you to read up on the training and tactics section of our forum. Role playing here with different scenarios is a lot safer than trying to figure out what to do in real life.

Train your mind as much as you train with your gun. KNOW how you will react.

Thanks guys for the input.
Another question. I have heard from someone that you can't take a gun into a movie theater, but when I look it up on florida possession restrictions on the FDAC website.. it says no such thing. Just want to clear things up before I do if I go sometime soon to see a movie.

Congratulations!!
Read all you can here, practice, take classes, look for changing laws, use common sense...and never be afraid to ask. I have learned in a few short weeks here no matter what is asked it'll get answered. You might take some guff, but it'll get answered. I've been shooting for 45 years, and Brownie comes up with new "news" for me all the time in his answers/opinions.
Enjoy your new found freedom/security!

That's not an issue. You ARE allowed. We had a discussion here a little while back where someone carried openly into a theater in an open carry state and the cops were called rather than asking him to leave and the cops went about it all wrong and they are being sued. That might be what you are thinking about. :thumsup Congrats on the license, now go protect the flock !

What Gold said.

There ARE some states that don't allow you to carry anywhere admission is charged (NC, for one, I think)...FL is not like that.

Here's one for ya'll:
Can you carry in a theater that sells alcohol? :D
