I carry a glock 36 single stack 45 , light weight , easy to conceal my thinking is weight is the issue 20 oz is very light compared to 1911 colt . I may be wrong but in a SD emergency the fact I'm shooting at them with a 45 should be enough to make them find easier prey and I carry a spare magazine hope I never have to test the theory.
I don't carry one because I don't have one (yet). I doubt I'd carry one regularly though. My P345 is bulky enough, though a G21 is a tad smaller, if wider.
I carry an XD-45c, with 11 rounds onboard [with the compact mag] and 13 in the spare mag. You can never be too good looking, have too much money or have too much ammunition. The grip width on the XD is not significantly wider than the 1911.
Single stack .45 with a spare mag. I seriously hope I NEVER have to use more then the 7 rounds that are already in my gun. That would be a very bad day. The way I see it is, the gun is being carried (hopefully) 100% of the time. Therefore when I look for a conceal carry gun it's going to be the most comfortable large caliber handgun I can afford. I just don't see myself lugging a double stack .45 around with me everywhere I go...
I've owned a G21 and an HK USP .45 in the past but they were both just a wee too big for my hand and for EDC. I currently have a P.14 that does fit my hand well but I never carry it because a G17 or G22 is as big a gun as I want to carry on a regular basis. Not to mention the fact that I am slightly more proficient with .40 S&W and 9mm than I am with .45 ACP.
