In "what is a bar" so many different licenses are mentioned...G,D,C,CC
I have just today discovered that I have a person intersted in me escorting them shopping as an armed personal escort. I am thinking of pursueing this on a very simple basis, maybe taking on twenty accounts. However, I need to be sure I am completely legal and would also like to know any pros and cons anyone can feed me with. All the input everyone here can give will be appreciated, I am thinking of full time work near Christmas time and hope to get this all in order well before then.

Joe there are several threads within the top 10 in this forum giving LOTS of the details you are looking for.

Please check them out.

I can tell you this regarding "I am thinking of full time work near Christmas time and hope to get this all in order well before then" It ain't going to happen, unless you are already a law enforcement officer.

If for no other reason (and there ARE a lot of other reasons) you are looking at a 90 wait to get your license(s) back from the DOA without paying for and sitting through the mother of all psychological tests.

And even then, the DOA doesn't guarantee issuance.:thumbsdwn

{ON EDIT}

Here, check this out. Right from the proverbial horse's mouth.

Rumbler, thanks for the link...and the (boo-hoo) accurate info...
I am just not educated at all in this area..and I mean at all!

I'll have to read up and see if casual accompanying of people can work, though I just happen to be armed. Can of worms? This opportunity came up today and I absolutely know it will blossom through this lady's wealthy friends.

Joe, technically if you are being compensated you need to be licensed beyond a CWP.

We both know statistically speaking you can probably get away with not being licensed while you are going through the license process.

But as a "D" & "G" & "CWP" holder I feel obliged to point out that:

1) If you do "get busted" for providing unlicensed services, it'll most likely be a very ugly and very expensive thing. And it will most likely prevent you from ever being issued a license in Florida.

2) A LARGE portion of the program (in excess of 60 hours combined total for the "D" & "G" licenses) is spent on the legalities involved. Many people - including myself - are absolutely shocked to learn what you actually can and can not do legally.

. . . I know, I know, we are all aware of the "castle doctrine" Bush signed in Tallahassee. BUT there is also this thing called "Tort Law" that can still clean your proverbial clock in the event you shoot someone.

Mr. Buckly is certainly in a better position to explain this kind of stuff than I am. Based on the little I do know doing these programs convinced me more than anything I have ever been exposed to that shooting someone is the last possible alternative even if it is perfectly within my legal right to do so according to the letter of the law.

I guess I have rambled long enough. It is my hope this quasi manifesto will at least provide some food for thought.

Rumbler..
I'll never get enough "rambling", I consider it education. Even though it looks like I won't get this working by the end of this year I want to know the efficient steps to making it work in the future. At 51 I am in a position to go to school and become licensed, my time is very flexible, and most of all, this interests me. I am right now considering two things to do for the next 10-12 years, this thread is number one, and the second is becoming a LEO, but only for schools. I have three young kids and am interested in patrolling their school grounds as an officer. Kinda tough at 51, but I am confident one of them will work out for me.

In order to legally provide the service you are interested in you'll need to acquire at minimum a Class "B" Security Agency License (be ready to shell out the $$$ for the liability insurance) as well as obtaining your Class "D" and "G" licenses. Further you'll need to find someone with a valid "M", "MB" or someone who's held a valid "D" for 3 consecutive years to act as Manager of the "B" license.

Types of Licenses

For Individuals
o "D"- Security Officer
o "M" or "MB"- Manager of a Security Agency
o "C"- Private Investigator
o "CC"- Private Investigator Intern
o "M" or "MA"- Manager of a Private Investigative Agency

For Agencies
o "B"- Security Agency
o "BB"- Security Agency Branch Office
o "AB"- Combined Security and Private Investigative Agency Branch Office
o "A"- Private Investigative Agency
o "AA"- Private Investigative Agency Branch Office

For Schools
o "DI"- Security Officer School or Training Facility Instructor
o "DS"- Security Officer School or Training Facility

I know it's hard for you guys to post here without sounding negative, but in my eyes if it's hard to get it's worth working hard to get it. Plus everyone who adds info here will help me in my final decision, which, by the way, could be possibly be swayed by a bit of info. Happened to me back in 1976, was headed to the Air Force recruiter................ended up a business owner who retired young. Fate, I call it. An older guy (Air Force, ret) back then simply said, "You might better serve your life by...." It made sense to me, swayed my decision, and the rest is history. So post away, everyone's life history here, to me, adds to your knowledge, and that adds to a better educated decision for me. Negatives are very important, I don't want to be something that is so "unhappy" I am miserable.
